Just bought 2 from seller in the UK off of ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/293697065501

Not that easy to solder in on the circuit board, but seems to work once installed.

Note the way to determine positive and negative sides of the battery.

Seller's  description:

 Also Known as:  Panasonic CGL3032 3.7V, LIR-3032, LIR3032, KL3032, L3032, ELIR3032, KLIR3032, E-LIR3032, KELIR3032
VOLTAGE: 3.6 / 3.7V

DIAMETER: 30.0mm  THICKNESS: 3.2mm

LIR3032-VDY2 tagged lithium button cells are commonly used in car security, organizers (backup battery for PDA), computer equipment (memory backup battery), toys, communication equipment, and so forth.
The solder tags / pins allow these LIR3032-VDY2 tagged batteries to be soldered into electronic equipment whilst minimising the potential for the heat to damage the lithium cell.

The pins are for horizontal mounting on a PCB. The two pins are 33.4mm apart and positive pin is  wider (2.8mm) than the negative (0.75mm) and that the downward pins are further apart than the diameter of the cell.

If someone in the EU/UK is willing, I'll Paypal you some $$$ for the cost of the battery and all shipping.

3032 with tabs is a really uncommon size these days. Might be easier to find something like a 2032 with leads and just use some tape to hold it in place. The battery spec itself isn't anything special besides the size, it's just a standard lithium cmos battery.
It always blew my mind that apple put these things on a board requiring a full swap to replace it.

I thought the same myself but decided it would be best to just get a 1:1 replacement. They aren't keen on shipping to the USA for whatever reason. I can't find them anywhere else online.

yeah i totally hear you, i too would much prefer like-for-like replacement. i guess my primary concern is, they can't be found, havent been for a minute, so how good is the replacement going to be? can those batteries still have a useful life as a new-old stock item?

also, my searching did come up with a 3032 with a wire lead, but, it has a kind of assembly on the side of the battery. i was thinking it probably wouldnt work in a tiBook because there is that "lip" around the battery board in the metal frame that would likely be in the way.

Be careful, the Battery used by Apple is NOT a standard 3V Lithium Cell.
Apple uses a 3,6V Rechargeable Lithium Battery. The Board they are on contains the charging circuitry.
Using a Non-Rechargeable CR2032 can lead to it exploding...

Have you checked Mouser, DigiKey and similar sources?

https://www2.mouser.com/c/power/batteries/coin-cell-battery/?battery%20size=CR2032&output%20voltage=3.7%20V&rechargeable%2Fnon-rechargeable=Rechargeable&_gl=1%2A10irdt5%2A_ga%2ANDUyMjk4MjE4LjE3MjYzOTcxNDA.%2A_ga_15W4STQT4T%2AMTcyODg0NjI5NC4yLjEuMTcyODg0NjQ5Ny40Ni4wLjA.

They aren't keen on shipping to the USA for whatever reason.

Shipping across the pond (in both directions) requires a lot of paperwork. Customs, declaration, invoices ... For the miniscule profit it's not worth the trouble. Shipping betteries is somewhat restricted too.

Perhaps this one?

https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/panasonic-bsg/VL-3032-F2N/98633

I looked at this one a few days ago, but the voltage is at 3V instead of 3.7V. I know that is a small difference and likely interchangeable, but I'd rather keep it at the same specs and chemistry since this is a laptop we're dealing with. And as ssp3 says, shipping overseas requires some paperwork. Annoying, I agree. It's not too expensive though, so I'd have to find someone willing to spend a few minutes for me as a favor. I'd rather just get a 1:1 replacement and take no chances on an item (the laptop) as important as this.

If any Euro out there would be willing, I'll Paypal you everything you need, and some extra $$$ for the trouble of shipping one of these to me!
