Differences in memory speeds interfering with function?
« on: January 23, 2021, 04:57:59 PM »

I just got a new-to me dual 867MHz MDD.  It has 4 simm cards: 3 pc2100 and one pc3200.  The speedier card isn't recognized by either os9 or X.  OS9 flags a memory error each time it boots.

Is the issue due to the speed mismatch, or is it more likely the PC3200 is bad?  Is there any advantage to using  faster ram than PC2100?

Thanks.

Most likely bad, however, the definitive test is simply to put the PC3200 in by itself. and see if it boots and recognizes the RAM; if it does not, throw it out.

And Yes, use the fastest DDR1 (3200 / 400 Mhz.) you can, because it makes a difference in overall performance

Thanks for the response!  I'm off to get replacement ram.
