Recycle 2.0 - "Out of memory"
(1/1)
SCSIJims:
I kept running into this "out of memory" message when trying to create new samples from larger sections or normalizing large samples, so I installed another 512mb of RAM to my PowerMac for a total of 896mb. So, I borrow my usb-scsi adapter from my ibook and rip a sample from my ESI-4000 (yes, a working usb/scsi!). The sample is just over a minute and ready for chopping, but it's a little quiet, so I hit "normalize"
Again, "Out of memory! There is not enough free memory to complete the operation. Please make more memory available to ReCycle, then try again."
How could this be? How big could the sample be 10mb? 20?
I even tried to open "About ReCycle!..." and got "Not enough memory for a dialog or window"!
The "About this computer" says Recycle is using 15.7mb
What am I missing?
SCSIJims:
SOLVED. Phew! I didn't realize that OS 9 caps memory on programs. For anyone who runs into this in the future:
1. right click the application (the actual application in your applications folder, not the shortcut)
2. Click "Get Info" > "Memory"
3. Change "Preferred Size" to your desired memory allocation.
That's it! Hope this helps someone when searching. I had a hard(ish) time finding the answer.
Thanks all!

I always put 40 mb to be able to load entire songs with recycle and other audio editors, in this way the moria never collapses or the system does not limit it either.
I really recommend 30mb and up. I take advantage of this comment to send a greeting to the entire community. -afro-
IIO:
the requirement of this "procedure" is especially true when someone attempts to run programs from OS7 times in 9.2.2.
and i would be so nasty to claim that "all OS9 programs run more stable when you raise the default minimum memory size" - because you never know under what conditions the author once set that this value and what other conditions he might have forgotten.
it is basically the first thing i do when i install some new utility; i raise its memory setting from 4315 to 5000 or from 69k to 70k.
just dont exaggerate the numbers, because this memory is gone and will no longer be available elsewhere as long as the app runs.

Also in installers that say they can not install on the hard drive of your mac.
whenever I have problems with the installers, I also do this procedure.
These days a program for 3D animations is installed and thanks to this I solved the memory problem.
I'm commenting in case someone is still new and needs to try this as a solution to the problem with old installers. ;D
