Thanks to both of you for your help!

The problem is solved. The 8600 boot screen shows up again.

The ixMicro card did the trick - boot screen and subsequently 7.6 came back on at 640x480. At last! I was already about to give up on that one.

I'm not sure what exactly went on. Will check the Garden for whatever diagnostic programs there are and see if they can give me any insights.

For now I am not touching the hardware anymore in the near future :-D

Glad you got it going again, just out of curiosity did the built in video start working again?
