Agreed - I would love to find an S1000/1100 editor.

In poking around the interwebs, I’ve found similar mention of editors, such as the article here:
https://www.amazona.de/green-box-akai-s1000-akai-s1100-16-bit-sampler/

Google translation:

“Editors
Although the operating structure via the display on the samplers themselves is fairly easy, there are editors for computers that want to make it even more convenient. Noteworthy are Akai Polystar / Parastar / Wavestar (ST / Mac), Steinberg Panel Partner (Mac), Mississippi Filemaster (ST) and Interval Music (Mac).”

the sounddiver adaption works okay, but these older programs would be still nice to have.

in places like these things could appear for os9 and osX for PPC.

since many of these old models from the 90's used old appale, atari and commodore machines.

Version 1.5 might work in Mac OS 9? Some from time of System 6 midi software that use midi manager works in Mac OS 9.

list of examples?

Best I remember same kind of software for Peavey DPM samplers called SP-remote.
It is to System 6 and Mac 68k with Apple Midi Manager (same requirements that Panel Partner), but I managed
work it even with G4 Mac with Mac OS 9.2.2.

MIDI software that use Midi Manager behaves nicely in Mac OS 9.2.2.

If I can get copy of Panel Partner, I can say how to get it to work (I hope there is not bad programmed floppy protection).

as long as it has powerpc code and uses midimanager it should work. if millions of colors are not supported, it will complain.

with such old apps, though, make sure to add some 50% to the minimum RAM setting in the "get info" or they might not open.

Mac OS 9 can run 68k code with powerpc ( Rosetta before Rosetta ;) ), midimanager is full 68k code. And some old programs need to run in hundreds of colors (256 colors) mode.
Yes that RAM settings hint is good hint.
