Theories on just why anyone would do the following?

Got this 85W Mac mini power adapter yesterday inside a box with a G4 iMac.
Plugged good cord to input side and stripped what little wire was available on
the output side... and it tested good (18.5 Volts DC).

Have a dead 85W mini adapter? You can have this one for postage costs alone.
