Seagate STAE102
« on: July 27, 2018, 01:25:53 PM »

Began condensing and moving files around last night and cleared a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 500GB USB drive. Reformatted it Mac OS extended. Mounts on G5, MDD, Quicksilver… but when it comes to the old Blue & White G3, it will not mount if connected to rear USB port before (or after) boot. However after boot (talkin’ OS 9 here) if connected to aluminum Apple Cinema Display’s (connected to the G3) USB port, it does then mount.

Nice to have a Seagate STAE102 eSATA to Firewire conversion cable, but not for $30.00 from Israel. Anyone have one of these lying about, unused… for less? Not of major importance, yet it might be nice to have the faster Firewire transfer rates. Thanks! ;)

Thanks to TheGrandPubaa (& somebody out in Cali) I now have one of the STAE102’s
with a 9 pin (female) to 6 pin (male) converter plug attached which allows quick access
to “loose” SATA drives via FW400 and even ye olde 500GB Seagate (previously USB 2).

Damned handy and inexpensive.

Yes... a nice inexpensive solution :)

For raw SATA Notebook or Desktop hard drives., and for those who love to spend massive $$$ like me...
the top of the food chain for quick transfers to old macs is:

Newer Tech Voyager Q HDD Dock For 2.5"/3.5" Sata Drive
    Compatible With 2.5" & 3.5" Sata Drives
Includes Internal Chipset & Support For Up To 500mbps
Compatible With Any Standard 2.5" Or 3.5" Sata Drive Up To 6.0tb

Yup great to have such nice things, but for my down & dirty
quick access... on a shoestring budget... le workaround!

BTW, I bid up to $22.00 for that other "rare" item! No-go.
