I have a 14" 1.33Ghz and a 12" 1.2Ghz that run well, just not sleep.

Does the backlight control work on your iBooks? I am still looking for the solution to that issue

Hey guys,

I just picked up a PowerBook G4 12” 1GHz with 1.5GB ram and can’t wait to get MacOS9 onto it.

Do I just need the install CD referenced at the top of the thread? Any specific instructions for this model of mac?

Even more excitingly, I’ve also ordered an MSATA/IDE adapter, an SSD and a replacement LCD panel at 1400x1050 - this could be the ultimate OS9 rig!

Further to my post above, the link to download the 9.2.2 CD iso doesn't work. I can get into the file server area using the password, but when I try and download the iso I get a web server error. Can anyone wetransfer it to me? Email is hopwood@gmail.com

Thanks, I now have the CD and have burnt it. Still doesn’t boot my PowerBook G4 sadly... only shows up in boot loader / startup disk if I boot into OF and spoof model to an earlier type, but then won’t boot, just grey screen

I guessing you're trying to download it with a newer browser. The issue may be that the site is using TLS1 or 1.2 or some "obsolete" protocol and your browser won't negotiate with it. I was able to access it after enabling TLS 1 in Firefox 83. Firefox popped up a box where I could temporarily do that while warning me that choice will be soon be gone. How considerate…

SO... IF at first you’re unable to download files from this site,
you rather simply might try using a different browser.

Have had this problem before as I moved from Safari (11.1.2) to Google Chrome [87.0.4280.88 (x86_64)] as my daily browser of choice… on this Mid 2007 iMac running El Capitan. Just now I attempted the download of the M-Audio Transit software via Google Chrome and it was a no-go. Then, simply opened trusty ol’ Safari and Viola! eZ-pZ download accomplished.

Problems? TRY ANOTHER BROWSER!
(Or deal with the TLS routine.)

Is there a Mac OS 9.2.2 install for an upgraded G4 Cube? Some specifications are a Sonnet upgrade CPU G4 1.8 Ghz, 1.5 GB RAM and ATI Radeon 9200 Craphics Card.

When you do a search on the forum for "A1085" you will find a guy who managed to get the 17" 1.5GHZ running on OS9. He used some Open Firmware commands for it.
I'm a total noob and i don't know how that all works, but wouldn't it be nice to add this to the "unsupported CD" or to add this to the chart on the first page of the thread?

one needs to distinguish between "running" and "running".

it can mean that someone ran a music studio, scans and photoshops, and connects devices to the machine, but it can also mean that someone managed to make the machine boot halfway into open firmware without exploding right before the mouse freezes.

In an effort to stay organized and keep information current, I think it would be super helpful to make a new page off the home page called "Unsupported G4's" that contains a compatibility matrix detailing the status of every machine on every hardware component. It could look something like this:

"Al" = Aluminum. Model IDs, in table order: PowerMac3,6 / PowerMac6,4 / eMac 2005 1.42 / PowerMac6,3 (GeForce4 MX) / PowerMac6,3 (FX 5200) / PowerMac10,1 / PowerMac10,2 / PowerBook6,3 and 6,5 / PowerBook6,7 / PowerBook6,1 / PowerBook6,2, 6,4 and 6,8 / PowerBook5,1 / PowerBook5,2 through 5,7 / PowerBook5,8 and 5,9 / Xserve G4. I was able to scrape all of this together with Claude in about 15 minutes. Something like this would hopefully address the issue originally raised in this thread by @GaryN long ago about compiling all the latest status information into one place that can be easily seen and understood. Maybe we could provide links on certain individual "Y" and "P" values to specific forum threads so people can go find the latest information on that particular solution.

I agree, it would be great information to have on the homepage for people to look up when deciding for a model, checking on the progress being made etc. It's just that, at this point, the homepage is pretty much frozen.

I had agreed to help Knezzen rebooting Mac OS 9 Lives and put together the page design and forum theme for him. I also supplied news items for the homepage from time to time. IIO here has done an amazing job taking care of the Hotline server and the downloads. But from what I understand, apart from that there wasn't really much willingness to contribute or help out with the project. Add to that the amount of "lack of enthusiasm" expressed towards the project here in the forum, and he probably started asking himself: why spend money and free time on a project that nobody really appreciates? If I were him, I probably would have pulled the plug on the site and forum a long time ago. He instead opted to keep it running as-is, but obviously not investing any more time.

I was very sorry about that. I still love his original idea of turning Mac OS 9 Lives into a place for "all things Mac OS 9", with an emphasis on active development, creativity, tinkering, hacking, strong community vibes, etc. But as I wrote above, that never materialized.

So, getting back to your suggestion: theoretically, yes; practically, no. That is, unless you're willing to implement it and help reinvigorate the project? In that case, get in touch with Knez via PM, on Hotline, or elsewhere and talk to him about it. I'm sure he'd be happy to hear you out.
