Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) Mac OS 9.0 CD booting issues

(1/2) > >>

OS_XI:
I have a Mac OS 9.0 disc that my Power Mac won't boot off of. In Mactracker I see that my Power Mac came with Mac OS 9.0.4. I suspect that to be the problem. Would it be possible to roll the 9.0.4 update file I have into that disc? (I know that a CD is read-only, I'm suggesting to make an ISO, modify it, then burn the resulting file.)

OS_XI:
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this machine running OS 9?

DieHard:

Your unit should boot to any universal 9.1 or 9.2.1 CD..

You should not have any issues...

OS_XI:
I'm asking this because I already have a Mac OS 9.0 CD, and I don't want to buy a 9.1 CD if I don't have to.

Would it be possible I install Mac OS 9 in Sheepshaver, then copy the (virtual) disk to the one in the Power Mac?

DieHard:
As per the link I supplied the Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) is reference to 9.0 reads

"These computers are supported by the version of Mac OS included with the computer when it was purchased; retail copies of Mac OS with the same (or earlier) version number may not include the system software components necessary to start up these models. These computers are also supported by all subsequent versions of Mac OS"

Meaning you will need and original image of the 9.0 OS that can with the gigabit Ethernet (try macintosh garden) or a subsequent universal (maybe 9.0.4, 9.1, 9.2.1)

I will glance thru my old restore CDs for you, but I can't remember what I have)
