WTB: Exabyte 8500c 8mm tape drive
« on: February 05, 2017, 12:30:47 PM »

Long shot here, but does anyone have an Exabyte 8500c 8mm tape drive in good working order they can part with?

I'm restoring some archival material.  Everything was working fine until part way through one tape the drive tried to eject without pulling the tape off the heads.  After dismantling the drive and pulling out the mangled tape, I tested with a cleaning tape and it did the same thing.

I can't afford to trash any more of the archive tapes, so I'm hoping to buy another drive for a reasonable amount of money.  (Once I'm done restoring this batch of tapes I won't need the drive any longer.)  It must by an 8500c, not 8500, the 'c' standing for hardware compression.  I don't require it to be in an external enclosure, but I will take one either way.

Please PM if you can help.
