« on: November 25, 2013, 02:18:58 PM »

this is a partial list, for the other half of the list see the thread:
os9 Compatible Audio Interfaces (without midi i/o) http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=282

m-audio audiophile usb (2003)

connects via USB | allows use of pro tools m-powered | NOT BUS POWERED requires dc powersupply
more info: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep03/articles/maudioaphile.htm
driver compatibiltity range from os9 thru to osx lion + Windows 7 64bit
os 9 driver : http://m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers&f=195
manual : http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/manuals/Audiophile-USB_Manual.pdf
^^^ i personally think this audiophile usb is one of the best options all around for
the newbie user.. because its usable with many different types of pcs/macs laptops, imacs, desktops
also allows you to use the m-powered software on xp/osx+, functions as a breakout box to keep
your midi + audio connections and headphone jack handy and at close reach, features 1/4" input jacks
only drawback is lack of XLR jack compatibility but thats rectifiable with basically any small format mixer

emagic emi 6|2m (2003)

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar03/articles/emagicemi.asp
"m" version adds midi capability not in old version 2 years previous (www.soundonsound.com/sos/Nov01/articles/emagicusb.asp)
MIDI is only available under Mac OS X and Windows XP

M-audio audiophile 2496 (2001) (part of the delta family)

driver: http://www.macos9lives.com/downloads/MAudioDeltaV2.sea
info: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr01/articles/soundcard.asp
2 notches in pci card denotes powermac g5 compatibility | 1 notch means g3/g4 compatible only
can be combined with up to 3 other delta cards to add addtional i/o
one drawback is no 1/4" or xlr jack compatibility with this interface
ebay search: http://tinyurl.com/n8pojfz

Echo Mia(midi) (2001)

connects via pci | note: comes in two versions one with midi and one without
driver: http://files.echoaudio.com/drivers/mac/install_echo24_6.04.hqx
more info : http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun01/articles/echomia.htm
manual : http://files.echoaudio.com/manuals/echo24_mac_manual_3.1.1.pdf
the outputs on the back from top to bottom are 1/4" jacks: out1, out2, in1, in2
similiar to the m-audio audiophile pci device, except not in rca jack format
the difference between the mia + the mia midi is the bottom digital output section is spdif out, spdif in
on the mia, and on the mia midi, theres a digital breakout that provides midi in, midi out, + the spdif in&out at the end of the breakout cable (see pic)

m-audio firewire audiophile (2004)

manual: http://kc.koncon.nl/ewp/ewp/download_files/FireWire-Audiophile_Manual.pdf
connects via firewire | allows use of m-powered 7+ software under osx | note that the FireWire Audiophile requires a six-pin FireWire connection in order to receive bus power; if you have a four-pin connection you will need to use the supplied power adapter.
lacks xlr/1/4" jack compatibility

motu 828 mkII (2004)

connects via firewire | mkII has added features: MIDI I/O, word clock support and SMPTE sync. (not included on original version)
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul04/articles/motu828mkii.htm
manual: http://cdn-data.motu.com/manuals/firewire-usb-audio/828mkII_Manual_Mac.pdf

more info: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan00/articles/midiman1010.htm
2 notches in pci card denotes powermac g5 compatibility | 1 notch means g3/g4 compatible only
can be combined with up to 3 other delta cards to add addtional i/o
lacks compatibility with rca or xlr jacks, no mic preamps

M-audio Delta 1010LT (2001)

8/8 analog i/o + 1 x spdif i/o = total 10 inputs + 10 outputs
2 notches in pci card denotes powermac g5 compatibility | 1 notch means g3/g4 compatible only
can be combined with up to 3 other delta cards to add addtional i/o
features 2 mic preamps but no 1/4" instr. jack compatibility

larger image: http://c1.zzounds.com/media/quality,85/da2496_2-e372fc07e46926a13ce7b614e6135b4e.jpg

drivers: http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=DA-2496&id=1812652
drivers range from win98-windowsXP for pc | os9-osx for mac (not sure how high osx version it will go to, most likely tiger ppc, but MAY work for leopard PPC. I would be VERY surprised if anyone could have this interface working under any intel version of osx)

edirol ua-25 (2004) (DO NOT CONFUSE WITH UA-25EX WHICH HAS NO DRIVER POSTED FOR OS9, look for white inside the usb port)

http://www.roland.com/products/en/UA-25/images/image_02_L.jpg
edirol/roland interfaces are some of the most supported interfaces around
not many interfaces have drivers ranging from os9 all the way to the latest os mavericks!

tascam US-122 (2003)

more info: http://tascam.com/product/us-122/specifications/

manual: http://tascam.com/content/downloads/products/311/US122_Eng.pdf
driver downloads: http://tascam.com/product/us-122/downloads/
driver compatibility: winxp 32bit / 64bit, winVista 32bit / 64bit, osx tiger, osx leopard (should be fine to work with 10.3 panther aswell) also says its intel processor compatible, im guessing this may only be for osx leopard intel, snow leopard may work, but they dont confirm this
this unit also provides the ability to mix 2 signals (mic/instr) into 1 signal on each side (L/R) of the 2 inputs
so theoretically u could record two people, both playing guitar + singing, into 2 tracks, 1 per performer, just to illustrate its features.. or u can use this to simple switch between the guitar + the mic while keeping them both connected and doing takes. also allows you to use a hardware compressor or other effects chain one insert per side (L/R)

As in the original Hammerfall, the 9652 product number refers to the fact that the card supports sampling rates up to 96kHz and audio inputs and outputs for up to 52 channels — 26 inputs and 26 outputs, from three ADAT I/O pairs and co-axial S/PDIF I/O. Each ADAT channel supports 48kHz/24-bit operation, and S/MUX mode is also available to pair ADAT channels in order to provide 12 96kHz/24-bit channels instead. Like its predecessor, the HDSP 9652 also implements what RME refer to as 'ASIO zero CPU load' technology, meaning that you can have 52-channel operation without placing any burden on the host processor.

NUENDO AUDIOLINK 96 (2002)

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep02/articles/audiolink.asp
Quote
The Nuendo Audiolink 96 system is no longer distributed by Steinberg since 2004. We recommend all users to get current drivers, tools and manuals directly from the hardware manufacturer RME-Audio. RME-Audio lists this card under the category "Hammerfall DSP" as "Digiface" and "Multiface".

The link posted above for the manual for the M-Audio FireWire 1814 is broken.

The Manual for the M-Audio FireWire 1814 can still be found by going to this link: https://www.m-audio.com/support/documents

In the "Series" column, click on "Legacy." Then choose "Firewire 1814" in the "Product" column, choose your language, and click the blue "Show Results" button. Now you can download the "Quick Start Guide" and the "User Guide" (Manual). These two documents show up when "English" is the selected language. YMMV with other languages.

Also, the drivers for the M-Audio FireWire 1814 can still be downloaded via this link: https://www.m-audio.com/support/drivers
The process is similar to the documents download. Click on "Legacy" in the "Series" column, click on "Firewire 1814" in the "Product" column, choose "Mac OS 9.x" in the "OS" column, and click the blue "Show Results" button. The two drivers that appear are:
Firewire 1814  1.0.3  (Mac)  07-02-2004  FireWire OSX 1.0.3
Firewire 1814  2.3.8           11-25-2001  OMS2_3_8.sit

Many other Mac OS versions are listed, but I haven't looked at what drivers show up for each.

With a lot of links going dead over time, and drivers being especially hard to track down sometimes, I spent awhile making notes on various audio interfaces. I figured I may as well share with everyone else

Mods - please feel free to let me know if theres a better way to share this

Two Firewire audio interfaces with midi to add:

Yamaha mLAN8P
Driver: in bundled driver CD. Needs mLAN driver 1.04 or less with mLAN Mixer software. I have not found those from internet.
Pictures and "preview": https://www.soundonsound.com/sound-advice/introduction-mlan-part-3
Mac OS 8.6-9.2.2 are only operating systems for mLAN8P. Win9x has only mLAN Mixer for remote control thru serial port when it is in use with Mac OS  ;)
Although it has fancy LCD and dial, you cannot do much without mLAN Mixer Software.

Yamaha i88x

So, I'm looking for an RME Hammerfall DSP 9652 - had a quick look on ebay, and there seems to be a TON from China, all for roughly the same price. It all seems a wee bit odd - does this look at all suss to anyone else, or do I need to trim my scam filters expectations a bit?

it all boils down to this: Lynx Studio Technology Aurora 16 with AES16/SRC/XLR and/or LT-ADAT/FW/HD/USB/MADI/TB was the highest quality converter for Mac OS 9 and will be.

The highest quality converter for Mac OS 9 is the external one.

The highest quality converter for Mac OS 9 is the external one.

for every computer it makes sense to have things separated. you can even enhace the experince by building external psus to external converters :)

that being said we need a proper spreadsheet with all converters.
