highpoint cards available for very cheap ($9,99) on ebay
« on: April 08, 2015, 04:18:54 AM »

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HighPoint-RocketRAID-1720-LF-SATA-2-PCI-RAID-Controller-Host-Adapter-2-Channel-/111641226137?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19fe55eb99

these cards are compatible in both mac g4 + g5 computers
says 10+ available
im not sure if its mac os 9 bootable.. but i think there may be a chance it is
but perhaps its only bootable in X... but will work for a data only drive in 9?? im guessing?

more info:
http://www.hptmac.com/product.php?_index=39
http://www.hptmac.com/product.php?_index=39&viewtype=details
http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA_new/about_rocketraid_mac.htm

another thing to point out is that these cards support *SATAII speed* (3gbps) rather then *1.5gbps* which is what all the seritek cards are..

Quote
PCI 32bit@33/66 MHz
Up to 2 SATA II Hard Drives
RAID 0, 1, and JBOD
Internal SATA
Power Mac G5 (PCI-X)
Power Mac G4
PC Platform

Features
SAS/SATA
3Gb/s (300MB/s) transfer rate
NCQ (Native Command Queuing)
Staggered drive spin-up support
Hot swap and hot spare
Bad Sector Reallocation and Remapping
Write-through and write-back cache support
Quick and Background initialization for quick RAID configuration
Online array roaming
64bit LBA for over 2TB support
Automatic RAID rebuild of failed drive
S.M.A.R.T drive monitoring for status and reliability
Browser-based RAID management software
SMTP for email notification

now another thing to point out
although it supports sataII, its a short pci card.. (not 64bit length)
so im not sure how it can achieve sataII speed!!!! lol

the history page says that the 1820A model was first developed for G4.. (2004) (sata150)
and the 2220 model was developed for G5 (2005) (sata300)

this is confusing me tho because the 2220 manual says nothing about mac

im trying to find a card that will let me have sataII (300mbps) on the g5 and still work if i want at 150mbps on the g4...

http://www.macgurus.com/store/Item/lycesata4
this guy claims this card works in the g5 at sataII speeds
id like a card like this that has internal ports.. but there doesnt seem to be any
that is also g4 compatible

http://www.macgurus.com/store/Category/PCISATAHostCards
here he says that it is g4 compatible .. but probably with x only

ok wait hes saying to get the Sonnet X4P instead of that card if u have a g4
http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo_sata_x4p.html
^^^ this card (& the X4I) specify "non-bootable" by sonnet

well i was looking for a SATA II bootable pci-x card for my g5..

it seems the only one is this:
http://www.firmtek.com/seritek/seritek-2se4/

i thought all the firmtek cards were SATA1 but i guess i was wrong
apparently this is the only sata2 capable card that is bootable for g5's!!!!!!!
and it doesnt even have internal ports

protools guy;
u have one of these cards right??
did it ever work inside of a g4??

maybe i should just find myself a PCI-Express G5.

I bought that 2se4 card some months ago in a eBay impulsive buy thinking it was MacTron's golden 1s4... :P . When I discovered it was OSX only thru the reports, I lost interest in that. I didn't even tested it nor bought the necessary cables to test it. I also have all my SATA drives occupied with MRB or GUID partitions, so till this summer I wouldn't have the drives and cables needed to make a ride.

I lost interest because the oldest OS you need for it to work is 10.4, and that left behind my also beloved OSX PT 6.2.3LE and 6.4LE panther only. So this card is for a 10.4 or 10.5 use, and I do not have a favorite DAW on them. Only using it as a Kontakt OSX solution or a Logic in Tiger-Leo may benefit . Or some OSX Video setups. But for our forum, zero interest.  :( :-\

My last bought, a Sonorus STUDI/O (OS9 only) will never take benefit on the 2se4 (Tiger'Leo) .  :-[
