OS 9.2.2 retail disk?
« on: February 18, 2015, 10:56:22 AM »

Hi guys.

ok here's a challenge.

Powermac G4 MDD 1.25ghz running 3 OS's (10.5.8, 10.3.9 for tdm) and OS 9.2

how these are on 3 drives respectively.

Here's the issue. and I'm not criticising any work here.

Having downloaded Mac OS 9.2.2 universal from this site, I realised this is a system restore method as it's been tuned in a certain manner, that's fair enough, however, it's causing some real headaches with my G4 MDD.

after installing and rebooting into OS9.2, I have no audio from the main speakers or mdd speaker, no ethernet connection, etc which is abnormal for an OS 9.2 install. So, after going through my service bag, all my other OS 9 discs are machine specific for early machines but no retail edition to jump start a system.

does anyone have an official, untouched installer of Mac OS 9.2? if so, let me know or upload it to the site if possible.

cheers.

ed.

P.S: before anyone asks, I'm using a series of diagnostics that allow me to determine various problems, etc. the mac  triple boots so I can run either OS without any headaches, although an interesting experience did take place with an unsupported mac version of OS9 which caused the ATA bus to crash, cycling all 4 drives at once without touching the ATAPI interface. good thing I didn't have the magma connected.

Just wondering which download is the MACOS9 GENERAL INSTALL that comes on the original Install DVD for the MDD? Drag and Drop one.

There are many images there I can't tell the differences between universal installers and the general installers.

Can they be renamed? Also noted on the naming - the clean macos9 install from the MDD install DVD - with nothing added.

The 9.2.2 Fresh drag install is from a 2003 1.25 Ghz. MDD.  This install is the result of a Factory restore from the Original Apple DVDs to an MDD with both 9.2.2 and OS X, and then the 9.2.2 was extracted before even the first boot to 9.2.2; so to clarify, this 9.2.2 version (after extracting the files and copying the files to a freshly initialized volume) will have the OS setup assistant continue as if you just installed 9.2.2 off the original MDD apple restore DVDs.

There is no factory branded 9.2.2 universal install; 9.2.2 as a bootable install only came for the Titanium powerbook (1 Ghz. Version) and the eMac G4 1 Ghz. Model M8950LL/A (maybe a few others)… but NO Universal 9.2.2 Retail CD was ever sold.

Again, the 9.2.2 "Fresh drag" install has not been altered and is found here...

You can produce the same results by installing both X and 9.2.2 off the original MDD DVDs, but I created this image for those who wanted an OS 9.2.2 System only, without the need to install X at all; Apple, unfortunately, made you install X and 9.2.2 together on an MDD… they could have easily made the 9.2.2 CD a Bootable 9.2.2 install, but they did not.
