how to connect via Wireless router from mac os 9.2.2?
« on: February 01, 2015, 10:34:26 AM »

ok i have someone asking me for help.. to connect an iMAC g3 running mac os 9.2.2
they cant get it to connect to the router...

i already told them it has to use 802.11B (not G or N)
i want to get a thread here that lays down the goods on WPA vs WPA2 vs WEP

its my understanding that mac os 9.2.2 only supports one of these?

can anyone share with us their router settings + password setups
i think the password has to be a certain length? or something?

how is it done!!

Mac OS 9 only supports WEP. The card itself supports WEP and WPA, but there is only drivers written for WEP in Mac OS 9. Using OS X makes it possible to use WPA with the original airport card.

G & N are backwards compatible with B, so that works. It's the password encryption that's causing the problems.

Look into a gl.inet microrouter N300 or any model of their devices. If you get a dual radio device you can bridge over Wi-Fi. I prefer Ethernet to Wi-Fi client connection but bridging is an option too.
