I have one of these, but I have only used it with an Atari and Cubase Audio.

Not much need for it nowdays.

I think a hard disk recorder is still useful today. Many musicians still use their computer primarily as a recording device. These Yamaha units IMO were ahead of their time in that they mostly pre-date dedicated DAT machines. Most disk recorders came out post-DAT.

I had bought a CBXD3 a few years ago, the rack version, hoping to use it with my older machines. But I sold it this year with a lot of my gear when I was moving.

I only use the Atari for MIDI, yes. But there was a time when I experimented a lot and recorded some songs on an Atari TT with a CBX.
The easiest way to do audio recording on an Atari is with an Atari Falcon and Cubase Audio Falcon.
Since the Falcon has a built in DSP, it supports audio recording as it is, without any additional hardware.

From the Cubase timeline on wikipedia:
Quote
Cubase Audio, 1993:
Release on Atari Falcon 030. This version brings DSP built-in effects with 8-track audio recording and playback using only native hardware. It was an incredible solution for the price at this time. Later versions enable 16-track mode using audio compression.
