if u look in this pdf file it mentions compatibility with 8.6/9.0

Driver Installation The chapter contains the procedures for installing the Windows* 98,ME,2000,XP,2003 and Vista, Red Hat* Linux7.0,8.0,9.0 and Mac* OS 8.6x,9.1x,9.2x,10.1x,10.2x,10.3x,10.4 operating systems.

so it mentions 8.6 + 9.1 +9.2... but then.. it says:

Macintosh OS 10.2x/10.3x/10.4x support is built into the Macintosh BIOS on the SATA board.

did they just forget to say 8.6/9.x? this is a gamble probably.. but im curious if it would proove to be compatible..i think its safe to say it would work for storage.. but booting?? it might work.. it might not..

can see a 512 on the chip which means this rom chip is very small. 62k size.. which is great if it has firmware that can boot mac os 9....!!! but does it??


its impossible to read these codes on these chips to see if its "inic-1623TA2" or "inic-1622TA2"

this rom chip on this card allows only for 64KB firmware
is it possible it has bootability?
maybe its worth 9.99 to find out

My fully bootable Initio-based PCI cards have INIC-1623TA2 chips on 
them.

They also have a FLASH ROM chip, in which is maintained the firmware 
for the chip.

Both the LaCie card (sold into both the PC and Mac markets) and the 
OWC card (sold only into the Mac market) have the same firmware, or 
appear to have the same firmware.

I have used both cards in my G4s, and both were bootable.

The differences include:

1) the LaCie card supports external SATA drives, only (but using an 
iSATA connector, NOT the usual eSATA connector, thereby requiring a 
special cable), and power is supplied to the external drive by the 
Mac, or power is supplied to the external drive by a wall-wart, at 
the owner's option), and

2) the OWC card supports both internal and external SATA drives 
(using iSATA cables for internal drives and eSATA cables for external 
drives), and no power is provided for the external drives.

In every other respect, the two cards are functionally interchangeable.

Perhaps the best supported cards are the Silicon Image cards, but so 
far I have only used these on Hackintoshes, which are really PCs 
which have been converted to run Leopard using OSX86 code and kexts.
