cmd-option 3/4 screen grab in 8.6

does anyone know if this functionality should be available in mac os 8.6? or was it added n 9.0?
if it is part of 8.6.. what extensions add this? because right now im trying to grab some screens and its not working
i think i have the extension disabled or something
i think it was working before but i might be mistaken
