does anyone know when logic first introduced vst plugin support?
for either effects only or vst instruments?

i just got a copy of logic 3.5 up + running and i cant seem to find any way of loading a vst
so im pretty sure that vst support was introduced in 4.x

ive also tried reading my logic 4.0 book
and it doesnt say anything about vst either
so it must have been released in a version after 4.0??
im guessing? perhaps 4.5? or 4.7?

am i correct?
can anyone confirm?

so i guess vst + logic, was born in v4.1.1 and died in version 5.5 - RIP!
this article also talks of rewire tho.. and we all should know that this wasnt fully working properly untill version 4.7.3

if this information is correct this change in logic happened at almost the exact same time as the launch of the graphite powermac g4 sawtooth units

continuing to research a definitive answer to my question i find this article from december 2000:

What do I need to be able to use VST Instruments?

The most important thing is a suitable VST 2.0-compatible host application. The main ones are Steinberg's Cubase VST from version 3.7 onwards for PC owners, and from version 4.1 on the Mac, along with the entry-level Cubasis VST, and the latest versions of Emagic's Logic Audio range, including their entry-level MicroLogic AV 4.5. A few other applications (mostly shareware and freeware) also support VST Instruments, such as the freeware VSTi Host for Mac that turns them into stand-alone synths, and Orion and n-Track Studio, both shareware virtual studios with comprehensive MIDI and Audio support.

You will also need a fairly powerful CPU, since the sounds are created in real time using some of the processing power of your computer -- each extra note you play needs more calculations, and thus consumes additional CPU cycles. As a rough guide, you should add together the minimum specifications quoted by both your MIDI + Audio sequencer and the VST Instrument, since you will obviously be running them both simultaneously.

frustrating that they give us a straight answer for cubase but not for logic
seeing as they make reference to version number 4.5 on MicroLogic.. and the fact that 4.5 was current in december 2000.. actually it 4.6 had been released as of September (9/27/2000) according to my info..

im hoping someone else can respond to this thread sometime to help us track down the definitive answer as to which version vst support was introduced on logic... was it 4.1.1? was it 4.5? was it 4.6?

i had thought vst support was there much earlier then 4.1 before looking into this topic today
because.. 4.1 =12/21/1999
meanwhile cubase vst was released WAY earlier then that (8/1/1997)

was it really a full 2 years that cubase had vst and logic didnt have support at all?

VST was still available in Logic Pro 6.4.3
Stopping on Windows probably in version 5.5 but not for Mac.
