I don't think a USB Dongle will work in a Powermac unless a USB port actually came on the system. I have a 2-port USB card in my 9600 running OS8.6. No matter what, Logic won't see the key. There's a USB XS Key driver that Logic 4 installs and it's in my extensions folder and my system is actually seeing the XS Key in the System Profiler. It says nothing is connected when launching. It worked perfectly on a G4 though.

Does anyone have any other findings on this, running a USB XS Key on a 9600 or similar? (coachla)

To get this setup working, I may just have to find an ADB Dongle. That's gonna be TOUGH  Yes, I know, I know. Use the Dongle Emulator (I tested it and it works). But I HATE having to load that damn thing every time I want to run Logic.

Logic and the XS Key Manager are both saying that there's a specific "USB XSKey Driver" extension (titled exactly that) that's missing. The one that I have on the Logic CD is called "Emagic USB Dongle Driver" or something, so maybe I just don't have the right driver.

UPDATE: There is indeed an actual extension/driver called "USB XSKey Driver". I wonder why that wasn't installed when I installed 4.8. Hmm... I've got to find that damn extension.

my logic xskey works fine on my usb card in my mdd
which card are u using?
the one that i have i already told u is an adaptec UA 4000c or whatever its called
with nec chipset

the driver u are finding may be the driver that is made for authorizing 4.x versions of logic...
they made a driver to authorize the older versions that originally used the adb dongle because they had a trade in program where people were trading in their old adb dongles for usb dongles..  so i guess some people complained "what if i want to use my old logic 4.x to open old logic 4.x projects.. etc etc" so they had to create this hack to make the old logic work with the new dongle
this is probably the basis of how the crack/dongle emulator came into being. they probably based it on the code of this driver (Which was only for 4.x + below) which would explain why the dongle emulator doesnt work for 5/6

I have a Macally card which is also NEC. There seems to be a few different drivers. The Logic 4 CD comes with a driver called "Emagic USB Dongle Driver". There's also another one-off driver that I found in enabler's Logic archive called "Logic 4 XS Key Driver" or something. Both of these won't work in getting Logic to load, but something weird happens when I put the latter in my extensions folder:

Upon startup, it tells me that it needs the "USB XSKey Driver" to work, which is yet another extension. I read somewhere that it's located on the Logic 6 CD but I'm not sure that's gonna work. I'll report back in 5.

Ok I got it, I had to look to the Logic 5 CD to get the USB XSKey Driver extension. I'm guessing the Emagic guys released 2-3 different drivers and that you can't use just *any* XSKey with any of the drivers. The one off the Logic 5 CD works like a charm, even though I'm running a white Apple Logic Pro 7 dongle on a Powermac 9600 with Logic Platinum 4 but with a Logic Platinum 5 USB XSKey driver

thats exactly what i was talking about.
its easiest if you are using logic 4.x or lower to just use the dongle emulator though so its a moot point for us
all u need to do is have it running and select the main executable file for your app

seems kind of a waste to use a white apple xskey for logic 4 when u dont even need it!
but interesting that u got it to work with the 5 driver

does your macally usb card support sleep mode?
