Download the firmware, it's standard practice on the Digidesign hardware. I need to upgrade or downgrade the firmware of my Pro Control when I go from Pro Tools TDM 5.1.3 to 6.4.1 for instance.

It will upgrade the firmware if you use a newer version of Pro Tools LE with your 002, and downgrade the firmware if you use an older version.

I let it download the firmware. Quite ludicrous, if you ask me: it takes almost 12 minutes, downgrades the system to 1.04 (!), faders to 1.05, and boot to 1.00. Then hangs.

wow thats really crappy if thats the case...  :-[ :-[

perhaps u can figure out which plugins are not compatible?
does this mean its incompatible with every protools plugin on macos9lives? they are only compatible with 001/amIII/TDM?

this makes no sense.. mbox uses pt5.2.1 and that one is compatible isnt it?

is it the plugins that is causing your system hang? does the entire os crash?

I sorta understand now why the DIGI 002 package included a truckload of "free" plugins...

My system works fine, but only with the stock plugins. Just to complicate matters, I decided to install Soft SampleCell. Now my other plugins show up on the list, but they all give me a DAE error -9065 when I try to insert them on a channel. Aside from the stock ones, the only plugin that works is AmpliTube, and that's because it's a "HD RTAS". I will continue to try and see if others work, but be patient: it will take some time...

As for PT5.2.1, that's what I use on my studio's DA, with a 001. All is fine...

when i hear this i think of Digidesign doing this on purpose to get everyone to pay to upgrade their plugins.... its the only thing that makes sense, as to why there would be any incompatibility.

That's what I think also. And that sucks Big Time, my friend!
So we're back on the hunt for the plugins CDs that originally came with the 002. Maybe from where you got the PT 5.3.2?
That or some brave fella starts looking at the PT 5.3.2 code to see where it hurts...

That thread that's linked has conflicting info... the first guy says...

"Assuming that you're using OS9, the plugins should work. I exchanged my 001 for the 002 and use all my old plugins."

"I installed the PTLE software that came with my 002, and PTLE found the plugins without any problems"

THAT'S encouraging, but the second dude says that they're incompatible because...

"DAE is a DLL with PT version 5.3 and later."

We know that (according to Digi) 5.3.2 ONLY works on the 002 with the mixing console and NOT the rack version SOOO... my guess is that most people miss that little tid bit of info and lump all 002's together, claiming that the plugs won't work for their 002 (rack)!

I'm HOPING that there's confusion due to most people having 'mix and match' OS9-OSX... PT 5-6 and trying to install mismatched stuff and not being aware of the 002(R) exclusion!! :o

It certainly WOULD suck if indeed the OS9 plugs won't work with 002(mixer) but I agree that it doesn't make whole lotta sense if that's the case. I guess we'll find out!! ;D

Yes, I have noticed the contradiction myself. I do not pretend to have the last word on this, as there is much frobnicating left to do,  but my first-hand experience (I have tried it) says it does not work...

nice package there.. i had no idea

btw..
did u install any of the 5.3.2 updates?
http://download.digidesign.com/support/digi/mac/dae-dsi/dae532cs2.hqx

i think u said u installed this firmware already?
http://download.digidesign.com/support/digi/mac/controllers/002_532cs1.hqx
so perhaps u have already installed the updates too?
theres a readme pdf in there too.. maybe check it out?

i noticed on this page:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/download/en365031
that they have a different version of the mp3 option for every single
version of PT!!! (Wtf!!) maybe theres some type of codes embedded
that authorize the plugin to work with that version *Shrug*

Yes. as mentionned in earlier post, I have DAE 5.3.2cs2 installed. I also had the latest 002 firmware (1.21) installed, but that gets bumped to 1.04 by PT 5.3.2's insistance.

I have tried various plug-ins from this site. I sadly report that the only ones that work are the T-Racks.

here are the ones that I tried:
Channel strip
LA-2A
1176
Drwner Dynamics
Echo Farm
LexiVerb
Focusrite D2
Focusrite D3
Fairchild 660
JOEMEEK Compressor
Pultec EQP-1A
Tel-Ray delay

Furthermore, a good number of them don't even show on the pulldown plugin list.

Now, I have serious doubts about the plugins on this site: a fair number of them, once decompressed, show garbled names and/or no icons. whether they've been decompressed in OSX or OS9...

the plot thickens.

its possible there was some type of mistake made... thats why its important for people to speak up and share this info
or to use the "Report to moderator" function + communicate that something is wrong!

but its also possible that the error is caused by your own doing..
mac os is tricky disco compared to other os' there are definately strange things that can occur even to the best pro mac'intosher.. wrong versions.. or corrupted files...

i havent experienced any garbled names, but i have seen some of the pt plugins have no icons!

To be clear: when I say those plugins don't work, I mean they don't work with PT LE 5.3.2, with the DIGI 002.

but then,
Drawner Dynamics
Echo Farm
LexiVerb
Focusrite D2
Focusrite D3
Fairchild 660
don't work on my PT LE 5.2.1 cs1/digi 001 rig either....

It's getting extremely confusing, and hard to know, as to which variety of RTAS you're dealing with... the PT free type, PT 5.2.1 or PT 5.3.2 types???...
I did not expect to find such a can of worms.

unfortunately the people who organized + posted the plugins were somewhat inexperienced with the plugins..
and had no way of telling which are LE compatible and which are TDM only
the plugins u have described as not working are undoubtedly TDM only plugins or they are the specific TDM version of the plugin.. (LE version withstanding and MIA for the moment untill we rally the troops!)

u are however being of great help to everyone else and helping us to make sure that we can specify these things so that other people dotn make the same mistake twice.

I understand that, but I blame Digidesign for creating a fine mess in forcing to have plethora of varieties of plugins, with no way to tell them apart...

they could have easily used a different versioning scheme.. ie 2.001 3.001 4.002 but that would be too easy to figure out without getting lost on their website for 2 years
