Need to go from OS 9.2.2 back to OS 9.1

(1/1)

MacGuy:
My iMac G3 ( purple jelly bean ) is running both OS X and 9 on the same hard drive.

OS X is Tiger ( 10.4 ) and OS 9.2.2

I need to go back to OS 9.1 because OS 9.2.2 is not working ( behaving badly ) with many of my midi/audio/video programmes.

How is that done ?

I recall many Mac operating system ago that after you start up if you moved the system folder out to the desktop or even into an "untitled" folder and then restart from the install disk you wanted you would be able to go back in a system.  In my case going from 9.2.2 to 9.1.

Recommendations and advice help required please.

MacOS9Lives.com:
1) Boot to another Partition if Possible (alt key)... or a fully bootable CD of 9.1 or 9.2.2 (c Key)
2) Move System Folder, Documents, and Applications (Mac Os 9) to a folder called "Mac 9.2.2 install"... The assumption here is that your installed Programs are in other Folders, if this is incorrect make a new Folder Applications (Mac Guy) and move your installed apps there
3) Boot to a 9.1 CD and Install.... this will not re-initialize the partition, so all you old stuff will be OK
4) drag any needed extensions and control panels from the old system folder to the new one, Leave the new system folder closed and simply hold the alt key and drag files (needed extensions) onto the new closed System folder... the controls panels and extensions will automatically go into the correct folders and holding alt will copy files without moving them in case you want to revert back to 9.2.2 later
