IrDA-port on some Macs
« on: November 21, 2020, 09:35:58 AM »

Some Powerbooks and early iMacs has infrared ports.

Has somebody use infrared ports successfully? In any use?

Powerbook G3 has it connected to SCC-chip, so at low level is it just serial port, so I am thinking is there any external IrDA to RS-422 converter for connecting MIDI interface to IrDA :)

Also it would be nice remote control TV and Blu-ray player with Mac.

A few years ago I used my G3/500 Powerook on a daily basis with my SE K750is IrDA for connecting to the internet. Well, GPRS was not that funny for surfing at that time, but enough for checking mails and some basic tasks. Also it was a pain to find the right modem scripts, but it worked without any problems subsequently.
