Searching for Logic Pro 7.2
« on: August 20, 2017, 04:56:34 AM »

Hi,

i have that Quad G5 here and would like to install my original Logic Pro 7 on it.  There was a paid upgrade from the 7.1 version i have to 7.2 to have full support for the 2xdual core processors.

Can anyone provide me that one ?

Thanks. I tried that and it complained about not having installed 7.2.

There is a 7.2.1 updater too on the apple site but it's the same. Shouldn't suprise anyone because effectively 7.2 was a paid upgrade (20$/€) during a short time.

I did some progress though and that was editing the version.plist file in the logic application. You know...right click over the application > show contents...and there you have a .plist file which is called version.plist.
I opened it with TextEdit and changed two lines where it says 7.1.1 as the installed version I have to 7.2 and that tricked the update installer 7.2.1. I did the 7.2.3 also right away but under my Leopard installation 10.5.8 logic gets stuck starting up during the "Loop browser initializing".
I found forum threads in internet saying that it could last as long as 12 minutes to get through that so I let it run while I left off but it still didn't load when I was back after a longer time.
It doesn't seem freezed or crashed at least looking at the Force quitting menu or the activity monitor so eventually I should just let it run longer or do an install without the apple loops just to rule things out.
I also did a suggestion I found saying to delete the index file for the loop browser but it didn't help either.

I got the idea of trying it with the tiger install I have on the same G5 quad and did the same procedure to install logic pro 7.2.3.
Now Logic when trying to start up is complaining about not having installed something called "Pro Application Support 3.1".
So I looked up for it and on the apple site I can only find the Pro Application Support 3.1 for panther (10.3) but I tried it anyway. The installer of it doesn't let me choose any OS partition I have showing the red exclamation for tiger (boot drive).

During further investigation I just tried with all relevant files I could find at the apple downloads. There are called Pro Application Support Update. I did try with the ones from 2005 (there are two from this year) through 2007 but the installers always said the update isn't needed.
When you Google for the one Logic is complaining about you will find sources saying there were two versions of the download.
Pro application support 3.1 for panther and another for tiger but on the apple downloads site there is only the panther one.
I will try the webarchive now...

Maybe it's still something missing from the 7.2 installer I didn't run. Remember I only tricked the 7.2.1 update installer to run after modifying the version.plist file of the installed 7.1.1 version I have so it's possible that the needed Pro Application Support file is covered by the 7.2 installer...guess I'm still looking for that one.
Anyone?

Pro application support is also part of final cut pro, shake, aperture and so on. Mainly codecs for quicktime.whats the quicktime version you got. The app support can be extracted from a fc studio cd for example.

Thanks again.

I have installed Quicktime 7.6.4 (under 10.4 Tiger)
and Quicktime 7.5.5 (under 10.5 Leopard).
I finally found a hint on a japanese website about that ProApplicationSupport file for 10.4 Tiger.
I will include both here for reference and other people having the same problem to track them down like me.

It installed but now i get stuck at the same stage while starting Logic like in 10.5 Leopard.
Beachballing while trying to initialize the Loop Browser.

It shows frozen under the Force quit applications menu unlike in Leopard but i don´t think that makes a difference.

The first attached file is mounted as Pro Kit 3.1 for Panther
the second as Pro Kit 3.1 for Tiger.

Update:

I went back to the Leopard install and installed first ProKit 5 for Leopard and then ProKit 5.1 for Leopard but it still gets stuck at the same stage...

I reinstalled Logic Pro 7.1 from the original media onto the 10.5.8 Leopard partition and it started right away without problems.
I loaded all the included Demo songs from the G5 folder and they played back well.

Funny thing: Logic crashed when i took the timed screenshot with the Preview app hence showing the error message.

So i went on installing the 7.1.1 update and its still working fine. Just tested opening the Loop Browser and its working.
Remember that i want the 7.2.3 update because its optimized for the 2x dual core processors.

Update: Installing the 7.2.1 update with tricking the Logic version breaks it again so it seems it´s missing some
components from the full 7.2 installer.

Forgot actually to try that, sorry.

In the meanwhile however I started also a thread on macrumors and just got lucky in finding someone who sent me an image of the 7.2 installer DVD.

I can happily report that this version makes use of all the 4 cores while loading the same demo song which under inferior versions only shows 2 cores and average higher usage with the performance monitor (?) from the Logic menu.

I've got Logic 7 DVDs, a black one and a silver one that you install from then you update to latest version with Software Update app. Also got Logic 8 upgrade discs to go from 7 which consists of many DVDs. Using the Upgrade Disc to go from 7 to 8 does I think use the XSKey still. Also the key that came with Logic 7 is a white one, and so far works with (what I have tried) 6, 7 & 8. Haven't needed to try 5 or below, and never had Logic 9. Do you want me to image anything

Morning all!  I resurrected an iLamp and I also am trying to get Logic 7 pro working.  I have a 7.2 retail DVD but my sad iMac cannot read it.  On my 2013 MBP running Catalina I tried to make a disk image of the DVD but it failed, so I used terminal to show all invisible files, then copied the contents of the DVD in the original structure to my MBP hard drive.

Next I'm going to put that on a USB drive then plug that into the iMac, copy the contents to the hard drive and try and install from there.  I still have my XS key so hoping it works.  The thing is it was so long ago I last used it I can't remember if it's the key for my version of 6 or 7!

Still, it's all about the fun here... if it works fine I'll create a DVD image of the files and upload them to mega and put a link in here.

Next job is to get an old Mackie Spike working!
