Need to contl alt esc finder to mount external usb drive-- OS 9.2.1 HELP PLEASE!

Recently had an issue with a usb drive purchased a new external usb hd --first few times mounted fine-- then it became finiky- then my original usb started giving me issues mounting --i need to cntl alt esc -quit finder and it mounts. both drive) thanks bill
