Dead logic board symptoms? Bad memory? Have you ever seen this?
« on: November 12, 2015, 01:16:17 PM »

I'm experiencing this (see pic below)

It has been working fine but it has been on and off. I just resuscitated it very recently so not a long history with thus MDD dual processor 1GHZ.

Succeeded at installing Diehard's amazing )S9 re-store and all. Was at the stage of adding drivers to the midi interface following Supernova777's recommendations.

Haven't reseated the video card but for a bit I've got the screen you see on the pic right from the moment I pressed the on/off switch but took out a couple of DIMMs and it booted again, got the chime and OS9 starts but craps out shortly after it goes through the "scandisk recovery routine" or right in the middle of it after being forced to perform a force shutdown from the last attempt of running it.

Any clues?

I might get access to another MDD soon though I've already replaced the power supply on this one (after performing a funky power supply mod so I could fit a regular power supply to it).

Maybe it isn't getting enough power? Should I switch power supplies? Anyhow. Look forward  to hear the voice of the experienced!

this is why ive come to the decision that i wish i had skipped over the mdd's completely... and just focused on using digital audio/quicksilver machines.. so i could focus more on what im doing with the software then fixing noise problems. mdds are the best but they are high maintenance + require more hassle.

the quicksilver 933mhz, i understand now quite clearly why diehard suggested it as one of the best cubase 5 machine so long ago here on the forum (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=308.msg549#msg549 post from november 2013)

the MDD 1.25 + 1.42 obviously SMOKE The 933 qs if u are trying to do really resource intensive use.. u have to get an mdd. but for normal hobby users the 933 is enough and alot less trouble

that said, i still wouldnt mind finding a 1.42 dual one day and dropping into it my already modified power supply!

Thank you for your replies guys.

Here it is with better resolution/size

P.S. If the issue is VRAM how do I address it?

Reseating the video card did it though I do not understand why as I've done it a few times and it seemed fine all along. I've also used a pencil eraser to rub clean the contacts of the card.

I've also succeeded in getting my midiman to get recognized thanks to Supernova's direct assistance who pointed me in the right direction links and all. I almost expected the doorbell to sound and see someone saying: "Hi, I'm SuperNova777 Where's your MDD?" Helpful replies were FAST and I was up and running as soon as I had time to implement all suggestions: Priceless!

I am brainstorming on giving back to this  community without further endangering my already critically perilous finances.

Maybe you could post a page with a bunch of ads for some of us to click for a few minutes a week?

Thank you everyone for your helpful input!

***A previous version of this post suggested erroneously DieHard as the lifesaver on the Midiman post. Yet kudos to him for this awesome hub of helpful people.
