FreeMIDI Sync?
« on: November 19, 2017, 08:01:12 PM »

just came across this on the motu site
anyone ever heard of this feature of FreeMIDI? i wasnt aware this even existed..
im curious to learn the details

http://motu.com/techsupport/technotes/document.2004-07-15.8842270181/view?searchterm=unisyn

ive never installed FreeMIDI yet, i will have to take this for a spin by setting up a pure MOTU system, with PCI-424 + 2408 + install dp3.11 + Unisyn 2.0
im curious to learn how this works!

FreeMIDI sync is a type of synchronization used between two FreeMIDI compatible applications. It is the equivalent to interapplication sync (the IAC driver) in OMS.

When FreeMIDI sync is enabled in the FreeMIDI preferences (File menu > Preferences), open applications will appear as sync sources in the send and receive sync windows. You can use the transports in Unisyn, for example, to transport Digital Performer in the background. Here's what you do:

Launch FreeMIDI. Choose Interapplication MIDI in the preferences dialog box (File menu > Preferences).
Launch Digital Performer and Unisyn.
In Digital Performer make sure FreeMIDI sync is selected in the Basics menu.
Go to Unisyn. Open the transport window from the Play menu.
Hit the play button and DP will follow in the background.

i guess this feature helps to link Unisyn with DP if you are using FreeMIDI
