dont mount disk?
« on: February 23, 2017, 09:02:29 PM »

maybe i should know and just forgot it, but is there an option to make a HD not mount at startup?

as we know OS9 can automount some 23 or so volumes after booting and if you want more, you have to enable them later.

but can you also disable a specific disk or volume from automounting?

i would like to temporarily disable one of my internal SATA HD (3 volumes) without plugging the cables in and out.

I know when you create the volume there is a setting to disable automounting.
I don't know how to do it after the fact yet though. I thought drive setup has a way to do it.

With Mac OS X, I only know one way to avoid mounting volumes at startup : TinkerTool System (more infos here  https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/13662/tinkertool-system and here https://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerToolOverview.html) and available for all OS X systems with a small fee.

Under Mac OS 9, I think the option is available only reformatting the HD and set it 'not to automount' or better using an 'HD Protection Utility' that keep it 'invisible' without a pw.

I hope I helped you...

ah, right, that is what i had in mind but didnt know where from.

it should be possible later, too, i think. the question is how and if it will really prevent a disk from starting to spin :)

maybe a little switch for the power cable would be better than a software solution.
