seeing that mac os 8 was released: july 1997 and final update may 1999...
whats the average size of a hard drive for this computer from this time period?

well i found this article:

which claims that the range in 1997 was: 3.2GB to 28GB and lists example drives

but for 1998 it says: 2.1GB to 19.3GB

but i think this site is somehow not correct and is some computer generated spam site crap and that this info is wrong

checking the pc magazines pdfs on google books i see

ok i see 2gb + 4gb drives listed in the attached pic

so it would seem i would be ok to use a compact flash with ide adapter
in combination with a 16-32gb compact flash card

would 8gb be too small?

i also read that these drives were only ATA-33 capable
and that ATA-66 didnt come into effect until 1999
which makes sense why the b&W g3 has only ata-33

i have ordered some compact flash to ide
as well some SD card to IDE adapter..
i will be benchmarking with quickbench!!!

heres a list of the drive sizes offered in an ad in may of 1999 when mac os  8.6 was released
easy to see the average was between 10gb-20gb at this time

using these magazines is a great way to look back in time for questions regarding popular hardware
