SSL Fail, Firefox etc.
« on: March 02, 2026, 05:27:15 PM »

Okay… CAN access forum with Safari 13.1.2 and Waterfox 2022.11 on this iMac and Safari on iPhone 7. CAN’T access with Firefox 115.33.0 esr on this iMac OR via iPhone SE (also Safari).

Something has been changed, somewhere?

Firefox worked fine this morning @ 5:30 a.m. - but not since or afterwards… AND still not now. (Have not tried iPad.)

Maybe somebody is fiddling with knobs?  ;)

I get 'host is down' from time to time, but I'm writing this on Firefox 78.15.0esr right now.

Yes, been running into SSL Cloudflare errors for about a week now (on Safari 26.3) when accessing the main MacOS9Lives.com website.

I had been having Cloudflare errors for a while. Since later yesterday OS9Lives has been loading. The site renders a rather mess in Safari on Tahoe. It actually loads just about the same as it loads in Cyberdog on OS 9. It does load and look quite normal on Classilla using OS 9. The forms do render normal on Cyberdog, Classilla, and Safari. So just the main page seems a bit wonky depending on the browser being used.

The Cloudflare error I was getting was from Chicago and specifically involved an SSL handshake error, reporting that "Host is not responding."

We’ve had a huge influx of bots, triggering the DDoS safety net CloudFlare has. I had to get us our own cert instead of CloudFlares provided cert and we’re still having issues.

We went from 100k unique visitors per day to 1.5 million over the course of the weekend. The internet is a special kind of hellscape nowadays. Sorry for the issues and the time it has taken to solve them. The SSL cert issues are now most likely because of cashed certificates in everyone’s browsers. Try cleaning the cache and see if that works.

I’ll continue my work :)

With Firefox v148 on macOS I'm getting "SSL_ERROR_ILLEGAL_PARAMETER_ALERT" when trying to use https.
This doesn't look like a cached / old certificate but a wrong encryption setting.

https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=macos9lives.com says you are delivering 2 certificates.
The RSA one is actually for macintoshgarden.org and has no alternate names for macos9lives.com

It makes me so sad that we can't have this little corner to ourselves.

It's being said that since our Prez Orange started launching missiles at Iran the other day, Iran has begun a variety of DDoS and similar attacks on Western Internet infrastructure, Cloudfare, AWS etc. among them. Our little niche issues may just be collateral damage…
