Title: Desperately seeking Castlewood ORB Tools 1.42
Post by: lodestone.audio on August 13, 2018, 08:27:33 AM
Desperately seeking Castlewood ORB Tools 1.42, as seen last on http://www.castlewood.com:80/downloads.html

The file name is mot_142_english.hqx   Macintosh ORB Tools v1.42, English   1,977,730   05-01-00

Already checked archive.org and everywhere else mentioned in search engines.

I'm running 9.2.2 (Mac OS 9 Lives) on a G4 tower. ORB Tools 1.3b can see the disks via SCSI or USB-to-SCSI; however, the disks cannot be mounted and eventually get ejected. I have a vague memory of having to use the latest ORB drivers on 9.2.2 to get them to mount.

Also, I noticed that I am on ORB firmware D20. It would be cool to find the D42 firmware, but I don't know that this is necessary. Last seen at ftp://209.185.119.20/orbtools/mac/CWMacFlash_D42S.hqx

Best,
Jer

This guy has the CD
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Castlewood-ORB-2-2-GB-External-Drive-ORB2SE00/302364538210?epid=1504441481&hash=item466654b562%3Ag%3AswkAAOSwvflZUuTw&_sacat=0&_nkw=Castlewood+ORB&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313

Maybe you can message him a few bucks and he will dupe it :)

Message all the sellers to find the "kind" soul :)

Money talks, haha. I offered $10. So R11 contains 1.42 & D42 firmware? Regardless, it will likely work.

Ebay may be a long shot. It just occurred to be that sellers are probably Windows users and would have to create an ISO image or zip the mac files.

That seller is really trying to help. But he cannot see the Mac files on his windows machine. I'm trying to provide links to easy hybrid-ISO software, but it's proving to be daunting. Bummer. So close. If I was sure this would work, I'd just buy the entire device just to get the CD-ROM. :/

So... good news. ORB Tools R11 is indeed the version that supports OS 9.2.2! I should have them within a few days, thanks to that suggestion. Once I receive them, perhaps I can add them here in the future in case anyone else is searching for them.

Final Orb Tools/Driver R11 that works for USB or SCSI in OS 9.2.2; also includes SCSI Probe and Adaptec SCSI Card 2906 1.3 driver (special thanks to DieHard for the eBay suggestion in the first place with respect to the Orb Tools search):

Love that we could solve this and that I'm not the only person who needed it. My server is now the last unicorn of Orb drivers for Mac, heh!
