sometimes i ponder upon leaving my beloved OS9
hated osx from the beginning
its candy look and lack of spirit >:(
maybe getting a portastudio instead.. :-\
ive got so many technical problems lately
at this forum i feel like
"the consistent contributor of unsolvable random issues"
recently i bought a PB G4 Titanium A1025
in "excellent" condition
and yesterday i got myself an ocarina
first time 8)
i make clarinets
and oboes
from recycled stuff
pretty awkward sounding
once uploaded a sample to this forum
later annihilated by the boss ;)
now im going to
try more busking
i managed to strip my 3 pismos
and put together as 2
but its no fun
i get headache when you guys
talk PCI-cards
also have two sawtooth g4s and one
nice cinema-display
that i got for free
when workin at the goodwill :)
i do field recordings; midipiano études (guicktime 4!);
falsetto and chewbacka-singing (all the time)
anarchist-anthems; poetic documentaries; electronic early Stockhausen-ish stuff
and crosspatching Serge with Buchla for the kick
ive made stoned karaoke for different lead instruments
and Frippertronics (thats ambient) with harmonica, using Max
also in Max I made stepsequencers,
tons of crappy pitchtrackers and vocoders
as well as cool Pluggo-plugins
and a sweet calligraphy-app
i love Beatles, Bach, John Cage and:
Laura Veirs :-* (we are getting married.. but she doesnt..know it yet)
well

thanks for attention

Now I don't feel guilty for dual booting. You have to choose the best OS for your interest (and your hardware), even if it included Win or OS X. We all are here because we love 9. But with clients I work on more modern platforms unless my main DAW is doing other things.

Cassettes are scarce. And Chrome tapes even more. I have a YAMAHA MT-50 and it is great to capture ideas, but to build songs in top of Mac OS has more Class for sure.

All issues are solvable, please elaborate them. I am sure we can help somehow.

I love rare instruments. I can play Flute and Ocarina has the same "handwork" positions
Please, feel free to make some photos of your work and publish here.
About the samples lost, after the last year events, we are reworking the "downloads zone". I am sorry in name of the forum.

I love street performances.

I think 17" GHz AL powerbook is our golden portable machine now. Pismos are great, but they show its age. Same for Ti machines. Pismos were the more expansible portable for years. Some dialogs in Star Wars Ep. 1 were recorded with them hooked to TDM and MAGMA chassis before the Ti came out.
I dont get the headache PCI cards part but feel free to use painkillers if the stuff get complicated. ;)

I envy your collection. If it helps. :D

balance is a hard task..

so i bought this 1 GHz PB G4 Titanium (A1025). it had OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard) pre-installed, but no Installer DVD came along. i want to transfer the OS to another hard drive (SSD) as well as have a backup/bootable solution.
i guess i have 3 options:
1. make my own bootable Installer DVD - somehow..
2. clone the OS to a FWdrive, like i do nicely with OS9, did not work last night >:(
3. buy the original DVD on like ebay, but which version works on my machine?
-
love your custom oboes. reminds me on custom pluggo plug-ins and on what i was just cooking for lunch.
-
the leopard DVD requires a 8.5gb higher density DVD if i remember correctly
whats more is that some g4 dvd rom's wont read it from a copied dvd but will read it from a genuine retail dvd
-
yeah, so which one should i look for? i heard over time installer cds been made more specific about the right model.

theres alot of videos like this on youtube on how to shrink the install so that it can be burned onto a normal layer dvd
and not a 8.5gb dual layer dvd (which cost more)
if i were u i would look for a download that explicitly mentions powerpc + a leopard version + also seems to be less then 4.7gb (as to fit on a single layer dvd)
the original is more than 5gb i think due to other content on the disk that is unneccesary
try this download offered here on this blog maybe? its claiming to be 4.2gb and for 10.5.6 powerpc leopard

that ocarina looks cool!
it reminds me of The nintendo game legend of zelda for some reason
i think they used one in the video game hehe

http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-osx-mac-os-10-ppc
this page looks like its got a link to the 10.5.4 ppc image!
i dont remember hearing that the tibook needed a specific installer version so i think
this should do you good, then just find combo update to 10.5.7 or 10.5.8

pioneering tonight getting my old pismo running 9.2.2 w somewhat flakey OMS to receive Midi from my (new) titan pb 10.5.8 via midisport 2x2.. :P

Keeping my fingers crossed :)
