Title: Mac OS X Leopard 9A241 – Restoring Classic Environment
Post by: darksidekevin on October 19, 2026, 01:04:24 PM
Hi everyone,
I'm starting a little project to investigate restoring the Classic Environment to Mac OS X Leopard, specifically developer build 9A241.
I've obtained the original Leopard beta and discovered the Classic Environment modification package hosted on Macintosh Repository:
https://www.macintoshrepository.org/47774-classic-environment-for-leopard-9a241-
I'll be testing this on a genuine dual-processor Power Mac G5, rather than relying on emulation.
My eventual aim is to produce a stable version of Leopard retaining Classic support, while preserving as many of Leopard's newer features as possible.
Before I get too far into it, I wondered whether anybody here has experience with Classic under 9A241, knows the origins of the modification package, or has investigated the changes Apple made when removing Classic support.
I'm particularly interested in whether anyone has successfully run Classic applications under this build and what limitations they encountered.
Any information or pointers would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Kevin
