Title: Recording Optmization on Pro Tools
Post by: Nokturn on May 29, 2026, 05:48:36 PM
Hellooo guys, this is my first post in this wonderful forum, for an big issue that`s coming for me, nowdays i have an Power Mac G4 QuickSilver with one 800mhz CPU and 512mb of RAM, but i`m in trouble with my Pro Tools LE 5.0, i`m running on Mac OS 9.2.2 and i have an HUGE problem with Pro Tools LE 5.0 being NOT able to freeze tracks, so i need to bounce every track i have to get less CPU usage, but it`s SUCKS, it`s very frustrating because it was supposed to be very fast on an 800mhz CPU with an fast system, and i use around 16 main tracks, such as 8 tracks for rythm guitar, 2 for lead guitar, 2 for bass, 1 for vocals, 1 for backing vocals, 1 for organ or synth and 1 for piano, but it can be more tracks if i put more layers of details in the music such as doubling vocals and stuff or more MIDI and withou even considering the AUX busses for such as delay and reverb, and this all with heavy plugins as bombfactory 1176 or the most CPU hungry Amplitube 1, make my G4 cry without "freezing" tracks by bouncing, so i need to bounce individually at least 4 tracks thats the rythm guitar tracks with the amplitube plugin, because the rest is just DI tracks, i know i was supposed to use real amps or an muilt effects pedal such my ME-70 but its broken and needs to be repaired and i need to be more safe with my money but i have to release already my demo at least, but, let`s to the future issue, i will donate that G4 and my Digi001, but i will get another 001 i found very cheap, but the computer, the only i found in good condition and cheap price is an Power Mac G3 400mhz, 128mb of RAM, but, i know that the Pro Tools 5.0 was designed for G3`s and stuff, but if i`m getting trouble with an G4 800mhz, it can be worse on G3, so, what you guys recommend me to do? I think is not RAM issue because, man, is 512mb, and i when i monitored the RAM usage, it consumed around 80-120mb with all but it can bump to 200 or more, but when i used the original 256mb RAM, it was with 50-100, i think it`s very modular for the RAM amount in the system, but i think it`s better with 128mb or more, so i have RAM here to bump those 128mb, if anyone can help with some optimization or better way to do bounces or recordings to make everything more productive i will be happy  ;)
