HI,
I tried the Kompakt version in the download section. Unfortunately the toast images can't be read by my mac.
Toast gives the -e39 OS9 error....broken data string. Any suggestions how to fix this?

It's weird... a lot of people has downloaded Kompakt and nobody reported a problem.
Are you sure you downloaded the files completely?
-
Yep...twice. ::)
-
do you have them on an usb stick or on a usb disk? i had exactly that problem with all files larger then say 20 mb. if you try to copy, mount or burn them you get an error -39. use a firewire drive instead or download directly to your os9 disk.

Hi,
I am using a USB/Firewire Lacie drive. USB for downloading files from PC. Firewire for uploading it to the mac. (My G4 is a standalone) All other .toast images from the download section work fine...it's just those Kompakt files wich keep bugging me. :o

this seems to be data fork / mac binary encoding related
refer to this 1998 article for more info re: preparing mac files for transfer over the net
http://tidbits.com/article/5066
as u know mac files contain data forks + metadata that can be damaged by windows + unix filesystems
the only way to avoid this is to properly encode the files to be in macbinary (.bin) or binhex (.hqx) encoded format
which can be thought of as a container or wrapper that allows the files to be transfered onto windows + unix filesystems
and arrive 100% intact with file associations + icons + other mac os info intact in the file
f.e. a toast image that is properly binary encoded i believe will be able to be double clicked to launch toast within mac os 9
vs one that is downloaded without proper encode.. the os will not recognize the file on double click . but most likely u will be able to still open it
in toast.. and resave the file .. if u do this u will see the new copy u "Resave" will show the proper icon etc
we need to adopt the practice of encoding files for transfer by using stuffit deluxe and using the "Translate" menu to "Encode to Macbinary" or "encode to binhex"
im leaning more towards .bin macbinary as a standard.. this means that every file we transfer would have this .bin extension, so file extensions would appear as
.sit.bin or .img.bin or .toast.bin or smi.bin etc etc
the actual encoding doesnt take long, and creates a new copy/version of the file that will allow it to visit windows or unix filesystems while keeping data fork + mac filesystem resouces in tact
this is something that we will be preppign everyone on very shortly due to upcoming changes on the site.. stay tuned for more info re: this in the very near future

...any file format that encapsulate/preserve resource forks (and file attributes) can be used .sit, sitx, hqx, bin, toast, iso/hybrid ...
...Anyway I've no idea what the arjen_1 problem is :(

agreed he should be able to at least mount it with toast by opening toast and selecting the file from inside the toast app

HI,
I can't even copy the files from my firewire HD to my internal HD. I get an -e39 instantly. If I try to mount the files from firewire HD with Toast Titanium (from inside the app) I get an -e39 error too. Weird stuff. All other Toast images from the download-section work fine. (most them are .sit though)

as i said i had the exact same behaviour with an external usb-drive. are the sit files a lot smaller than the .toast? or are there also very big sit files?
-
Well....I finally managed to mount the files! Solution; a different computer (win7) and download directly to usb disk. Still an -e39 error when loading files into Toast but when selecting/mounting the files within Toast; no problem! For whatever reason...it works. :-\
Suggestion; all downloads in .sit format? My uploads will be. ;D

Well...I always stuff Toast images for transport. They are at least 450mb...but work fine. ;)

Hi,
I am experiencing a problem with Kompakt. It crashes in Cubase 5 (Rewire DLL -25 error) or the patch selection freezes after a while.
Is this a known bug? Any help would be appreciated!

As far as I know there isn't a known bug like this...
Try to reinstall Rewire. Or completely remove it if you don't use it.

I need rewire for Reason but I can give it try.
Thanks!
