Hi guys, I've finally gotten my SCSI Film scanner setup on my Powermac and have been having a great time doing so. Its not really an issue but I was wondering if anyone knows of a quick way to generate thumnails for when I look at them in finder. I've found that opening and saving them in photoshop generates a thumbnail but it's quite a slow process with the amount of images I'm generatiing.
I've attatched a photo to try and make more sense.

You can generate thumbnails for all the files in a folder using GraphicConverter.
File -> Convert & Modify,
Function: Create Icon/Preview

Unless I’m completely missing something here…
Normally your scanner / scanner software will allow you to choose what format you’d like to save your scans as: .jpg, .tif, .png et cetera — and if you want to save a thumbnail. Check your preferences settings under the scanner / scanner software and maybe change those preferences accordingly.
[And why is it saving them as TIFF files? You plan on eventual high-resolution output?]
Also, changing your Finder’s View options from List, to Icons… might allow you better viewing of the thumbnails being shown in your example. There’s also View Options under that same Finder View menu which can change the size of the Icons from small to larger.

Sooo, what do you have there? A Hasselblad/Imacon or Nikon? :D
Anyway, IIRC, in OS9 thumbnails are just icons. If you have many of them they will slow down Finder significantly.
For more or less serious work, i.e if you have many images, it would be better to use image cataloging software such as iView Media Pro. It will generate resizable previews and will do many other things. All graphic artists that I know have been using it since OS7.x (?) and are still using it in OSX up to the systems that abandoned 32 bit apps. I have it on all of my machines.
It has changed hands several times. At some point Microsoft owned it. The final purchaser was Phase One, which integrated parts of it into Capture One and then killed it.
Give it a try.

So I ended up downloading iView MediaPro and it's perfect for what I need.
Oh and the scanner I'm using is a Nikon LS-2000

I´d like to also mention "Cumulus", which is the professional catloge software in this field. There is also a server version which makes the exchange with other operating systems easily possible. BTW, I got the same scanner. A university gave i away as damaged for free. Cleaning all the axis with IPA and greasing it afterwards, and the "damage" was gone ;)

For others interested in image cataloging software(s) there is a version of iView MediaPro 2.0.3 available here, compatible with OS 9. (Even our own Herr Bolkonskij sings its praises there in the comments.) https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/iview (https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/iview) There are also other iterations of this software available from other sources which may require versions of Mac OS X instead of OS 9.
As for the Cumulus software… Mat, could you provide any appropriate link(s) for download & use?

Other possible (and quite capable) aftermarket scan software packages are also available for the LS-2000 (and other scanners) from VueScan and SilverFast ($$?).

Seems to be a budgetary and overall image quality question.
And then there’s speed of SCSI vs. Firewire to also consider. ;)

I've only ever shot shot negative film stocks but I have scanned one or two slides for some relatives.
