I just released a new version of the Hotline Connect client HotStuff! The latest version is avaliable for System 7 to Mac OS 9.2.2 on both 68k and PowerPC processors as well as for Mac OS X 10.1 to 10.6. Get it while it's Hot(Stuff!) here (http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/hotstuff).
HotStuff! is a Hotline Connect client developed for Mac OS using REALbasic 3.5.2. HotStuff! finally brings Hotline 1.8.x features such as threaded news and banners to the 68k platform as well as being one of only two Hotline clients (the other being Pitbull Pro) for Classic Mac OS able to connect to multiple servers at once.
Still under active development, HotStuff! aims to bring back the joys of Hotline Connect to a new generation.

multiclient is great!
after years of kdx (and nowadays with all those web based services everywhere) it is always a bit annoying to run into the singleclient trap with the usual HL clients (when occasionally used in my mixed LAN/WAN networks)
there is iOS client from around 2018 or so, in case we might need that some day.

Love it!.
Now that is your second software or app maybe you could make a post about your develop environment or the limits of RealBasic 3.5.2 in porting free/leaked software.

are you still in contact with V1? i havent seen him for ages. :)
last i´ve spoken to within the network itself was the gloarbline man.

This is not really Mac OS 9 specific, but either way. I have yet to find a way to solve a pre Appearance Manager issue that generates random crashes in HotStuff, BUT I have managed to cobble together a trace output binary of HotStuff. Now, at last, I might be able to solve the problems discussed here (http://system7today.com/forums/index.php?topic=3790.0) (only applicable for Mac OS 7.6.1 and earlier).
It's slow, but it gives quite detailed output. Wanna give it a go? You can find it on the Hotline server (in the uploads folder) or on our Gopher server (gopher://gopher.macos9lives.com).
To reproduce the crash; open HotStuff, then open Netscape if you have it installed and switch between Netscape and HotStuff. Upload to the generated crash output text to the Hotline server as well. Remember, this is only applicable on System 7.1 - 7.6.1. HotStuff is stable on Mac OS 8.0 - 9.2.2 and OSX.
Thanks a bunch! :)

appearance manager in 7.1?
-
Yeah. Works fine in 7.x with appearance manager present, but crashes without it despite all the appearance manager specific code is removed. There’s something I missed.
-
i see. well i always thought appearance manager to work would require 7.5.x
of course i have no chance to test that, i have nothing here which can boot into OS7.
-
Appearance Manager needs 7.1 or up :)

I just released version 2.0.61 of HotStuff with a lot of fixes and added features. Get it while it's Hot (Stuff) at the usual place (http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/hotstuff).
A snippet from the version history file:
2.0.61
•Games are working! Start a private chat with a friend and start a game from the "Games" menu in the bottom left corner to start playing :-)
•Sped up the user icon handling, they should render much faster now
•A default user icon is drawn instead of the resource ID number in the userlist if a specified user icon can't be found
•Added better crash handling code through out the application
•Added Appearance Manager sound support for the PowerPC PEF target
•Revised button code for icon buttons
•Revised preferences panel
•Revised visuals throughout the client to make it more 68k friendly
•Fixed a bug that would crash the client when finishing a download
•Fixed a bug that would crash the client when uploading a file that contained a resource fork
