Is anyone still using PowerMail email client these days? I see that the v6.x.x has PPC code in it, but does it work at this day and age?
-
It works if you use something like STunnel (https://www.stunnel.org/) for encryption.
-
Thanks, that's very interesting. Are you saying that without STunnel there is no go?
Do you have it working or is it just a statement of theoretical nature?
(I also can't locate the v6 ser# anywhere :( )

Since many e-mail providers require a level of encryption that Mac OS e-mail clients don't provide, you're out of luck unless you use something in between to break up encryption for you (which is what STunnel does). <-- insert rant about stupid modern encryption paradigms -->
I know at least one guy (over at System 7 Today) who uses STunnel for his daily e-mail, though in combination with some Eudora version (and not PowerMail)

Yeah, without STunnel it's pretty much a no-go these days. If you don't happend to have a very "old school" provider that support non SSL/TLS SMTP, IMAP and/or POP3.
I have STunnel as well as Crypto Ancienne installed on a Debian Linux machine on my local network that acts as my man-in-the-middle for encryption, so I can browse the web and check my mail no matter if I'm on macOS Sonoma, Mac OS 9.2.2 or System 7.5.5.
So no, it's not just a statement of theoretical nature :)

What I ment by

is whether you have PowerMail 6 working with STunnel. ;)

Well, I can sure give it a go! I have Eudora, Outlook Express, Mulberry, POPMail and the Netscape built in mail client working with it, so why not PowerMail 6. Let me give it a go and get back to you.
Not sure what Bolkonskij is using for emails right now, but he's using STunnel as well.
