Thanks ill try this today

this package is OS X only
we still need the OS 9 upgrade package
-
I mean the files have / and non os 9 letters in their names that os 9 fails to open
any ideas what to do with those files provided above
I got a Power Macintosh G4 500 DP (Gigabit) in a Marathon whose CPU was switched against a Sonnet Tech Encore/ST G4 1.8 Ghz Processor Upgrade Card.
I need to enable this upgrade to run in os 9
Anyone know how to make those files workable on os 9 or has the actual Sonnet Upgrade CD?

Huh? Let me guess - you're a Windows user.
Have a screenshot of "non OS9 letters"?

Sorry for the inconvenience. I think creating the ZIP file on a OS/X machine was the reason for failing. Here is a .sit file you can open on a OS9 machine...
Content of the sit-file should look like this:

Startscreen of the installer:

Note: You can only read the PDF manual on a non-OS9 machine. Acrobat 5 can't open it.

Your OSX zip file was fine :)

But not readable at all from OS9. See other thread here (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,3366.msg49427.html#msg49427).

Policing people that they properly stuff and then hqx files is almost impossible these days. Getting a OSX zipped archive that decompresses in OSX with all resource forks intact is already an achievement. Many of modern day users don't even know what the resource fork is..

The slash "/" character is also a problem, because OSX replaces slash with colon when writing out file names. This is a source of OS9 / OSX incompatibility.
-
Most of the time (but not always) it's not a problem at all. As long as Type and Creator are correct, you can name your applications, CPs, extensions etc. whatever you like. I have a whole bunch of renamed extensions (version numbers added) in my Extensions folder and they all work.

love letters for example are not about OS9, or david letterman.

Thank you for reuploading the sonnet extension installer
It works
I still have to sort through each extension manually and try and find which
One makes os 9 hang during startup but
It works
If anyone knows why i get a error message This disk is unreadable⦠when
I copy from Extensions/Extensions (Disabled) the first time (its an IBM SSD 80GB on a Sonnet Serial ATA/seritek). Which SSDs are safe to use?

Don't be a good neighbor to her. I'll send you a love letter, straight from my heart.
