Let's make a list of all the silent cards for MacOs9!
Our power macs have small (smaller on mdd) fans (ventiladores) and also the box have one big cooler (various on MDD) and them make NOISE so searching for a quiet DAW includes fanless graphics cards!
On AGP
Ati Rage 128 Pro
Promax DH-Pro MAX
both the geforce2mx + geforce4mx have no fan
most geforce 6200 have no fan
most geforce fx5200 have no fan
Original Radeon (?)
The list can include a fanned cards with fanless kits, so please include the name of the kit also

The Promax DH too

this "promax" card looks like a matrox g450 or g400
i had one in 2000 times and i remember i *REALLY* loved this graphics card like it was soooo much better then anything else at the time
both the geforce2mx has no fan

+ geforce4mx have no fan

Is a matrox g400 with the firmware from PROMAX canada!
I would like (when I have it next month) to save the firmware for MacOs9Lives! for owners of Matrox G400 wanting to flash it to OS9!
But the thing is I don't have a clue on how!
-
its pretty easy - u just run a dos program at a command prompt on a pc with agp port (while booting on a pci video card)
you do realize this promax/matrox card is slower then the slowest one on my chart?
the geforce4mx will be alot faster then this

Quadro4 380 XGL 275 MHz NV18GL http://www.gpureview.com/quadro4-380-xgl-card-487.html
Quadro4 550 XGL 270mhz NV17GL http://www.gpureview.com/quadro4-550-xgl-card-490.html
Quadro4 580 XGL 300 mhz NV18gl http://www.gpureview.com/quadro4-580-xgl-card-488.html
these are the lower end quadro4 cards that have no fan
but the 550 is the only one that is agp 4x the other 2 aare listed as 8x
(http://www.gpureview.com/database/images/cards/490/large/nvidia-quadro4-550-xgl.jpg)
looks like it uses a dual dvi breakout cable aswell
-
Mine says a radeon 9000 and I don't think there's a fan on it at all. hmm...
-
I just looked again. I don't see a fan on the radeon 9000 at all.

One less thing to worry about -afro-
-
the 8500 has a tiny ass fan on it.. but makes like zero noise
(http://www.gpureview.com/database/images/cards/22/large/ati-radeon-8500.jpg)
i will also add that the geforce 6200 AGP cards also dont have fans... they are the preferred card for g4 cubes due to their low profile size + flashability to mac
(http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/ProductImageCompressAll300/14-130-233-07.jpg)
but of course this is not a 100% mac supported card technically... but i know for a fact it is 8x/4x/2x AGP compatible and incompatible with MDD for some reason

I'm running a ATi Radeon 9200 PCI in the 66MHz slot. No fan on card but have a extra fan blowing across it, exiting thru a open PCI cover slot. These are my OS X settings: Resolution 1280x1024; Millions of colors;Refresh Rate 75Hz; Display Buffer Size 128MB; VRAM 128MB.

hey dane;
yeah for osx TBH thats one of the weakest cards you can have! for os9, it is an officially supported card driver wise (the agp version is alot better then the pci version spec wise)
heres a list of other cards moving up from your card, progessively getting stronger/faster etc
geforce4mx, radeon 8500/9000, geforce4 ti4600, geforce fx5600, radeon 9700, geforce 6800(non-ultra), radeon 9800 pro, 6600GT, 6800ULTRA, 7600GT, 7800GS
the cards above the 9000 radeon would all require fans though

Chris, please. Let us talk aboutproben os9 cards. When protools is put to is knees I can see the redraw of the mixer. Slowly happpening with all my rages 128.
I am interested in cards with knowgood 2d acceleration. So from rage to radeon 9000s and nvidia nv2 to nv4. Also 3dfx and promax and jeronimo.
Of course fx5200 and radeon 9800 should be fine for os x. But we need a member with them on os9 that achieves various resolutions. Maybe benchmark them on os9.
We should focus on accelerated 2d os9 cards, and in this post, on the fanless ones
;D
-
the card is more powerful.... period.
i have multiple references to the 5200 card working 100% for os9 graphics..
and if it works..it works.
"mac os 9" accelleration is hardly what i would call accelleration.
rage 128 cards are garbage man. and so are matrox g400/450.
fx5200 is way better.. look at hte research ive done.
buy one for 10$ on ebay and u will see.
rage128-1998
matrox g400=1999/2000
fx 5200=2003
do the math
i will get one and test. they are cheap on ebay and plentiful in supply
i am interested in trying to hack it to work properly
but honestly i really think its a bit silly . the noise from these cards even with fans from this time period 2002
is very minimal these fans arent loud.. why the neeed to focus on "Silent"
-
a number of geforce3 ti 200 cards are silent featuring only a heat sink
