Someone asks 15 euro for a G4 MDD carcass on a second hand site.
It has no memory, HD or video card.
I suspect that the power supply is dead, and that they sold some parts and now they try to get rid of the rest.
It’s a 1.25 GHz single with FW400.
A few years ago I bought a 1.42 GHz DP FW800 that I don’t use anymore.
Is it possible to combine these two computers to a 1.42 GHz DP FW400 that can boot OS 9?

I have not yet transplanted a 1.42 GHz CPU into a 1.25 MDD but have seen reports here of this being done. I’ve a couple of FW800 MDDs that I have enabled OS 9.2.2 on - but I don’t like (or use) them for some reason either.
The 360 Watt PSU from the FW 800 MDD looks to be interchangeable with the 1.25 MDD - so you might try that if necessary… and the exchange of the 1.42 CPU to the 1.25 MDD. So yes, it may be quite possible.
And thanks to your question... going downstairs here just now to check, I found a loose 1.42 GHz CPU and an 867 DP MDD… which might be a candidate for the 1.42 CPU swap - based upon your findings.
And do please keep us all posted as to how it goes.

They confirmed that the power supply still works.
Then I would like to use it with a 250 GB SATA disk. Then I need an ATA to SATA adapter.
The FW800 MDD has 2 GB of RAM and a nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4600.

ALL FOR 15 EURO!!!!?
You lucky dog, you. ;)

i dont think you can change the daughterboard without modifying the voltage for the dual CPU.

It's the cheap last MDD model with combo drive and DVD-ROM. I replaced this with a DVD-writer. It had no memory, HD, fan, video card or heat sink. I replaced the processor, the speaker and the optical fan. I used the copper heat sink. My nVidia card was damaged and trashed. I use a Radeon 9000 with 64 MB of memory. It boots OS 9 from a USB stick with 2 processors of 1.42 GHz.

and both were DPs before.

And yet OS923 's was a single before... 'tis now successfully a DUAL 1.42.

So your point was to simply instill doubt about the attempt...?
Maybe you should be... IH20
(as in "ice water")... instead of IIO? ;)
BUT, Huge congratulations to OS923 and his "new" 1.42 GHz MDD!
