Title: OS 9.2.2 and Dark Castle
Post by: garyed055 on July 21, 2020, 06:41:16 PM
Hey all

I downloaded the OS9 version of Dark Castle and when trying to run it I get the message that it needs the screen to be set in 2 color mono. I can't figure how to do that in OS 9.2.2
Its a Clamshell Ibook if that makes a difference.

thanks

Gary

hm, OS9 doesnt not support that at all, at least not when you connect a color monitor. but have you tried if it maybe works with 256 colors?

I think the original Dark Castle only supports black & white. There was, however, a mid-90s re-release by Delta Tao with colour graphics. Grab that one from the Mac Garden (http://macintoshgarden.org/games/dark-castle-color). It'll work with setting the display to 256 colors as suggested by IIO above.

If you're looking for the b&w graphics because of nostalgia, you could try to emulate a Mac Plus on OSX 10.4 with Mini vMac. First download on this page here (http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mini-vmac-ready-go). Not sure what the performance will be on a Clamshell, might be too slow.

Wouldn't that thread better fit to the Games subforum?

The Color version seems to work fine. I apologixe if this post should have been in the gameing section. Posting this reply with the mentioned Clamshell
