Hi,what about a 9600/200 mp?i have found one of this in my city for 100 euro...in perfect condition.
What about its performance with os9.2 and rebirth-reason 1.0?
Anyone have a 9600 running os9.2?

I am using my 9600 on daily basis. But I´d say with a 200MHz 604 CPU you won´t have much fun these days. Especially not with 9.2.2 (you´ll need OS9 helper https://eshop.macsales.com/osxcenter/OS9Helper/Framework.cfm?topic=32). I´d go for 8.6 with this CPU.
I got myseve a 800Mhz G4 and 1,5 GB RAM thats fine for every day usage and 9.2.2 inside a 9600.
I cannot tell about reason/rebirth, but would say it´s not enough computing power. Of course you can user older software like SoundEdit16 with 8+ tracks and video playback within SoundEdit for example very well.
100,- is too much for the machine, unlike you really need it and are aware that it was the working beast 1997. If you need for example all 6 PCI slots it may be ok. I got my replacement (with 350 MHz CPU) for 30 Euros half a year ago in Germany.

The 9600/200 is a great machine ...
... if you get it for free.
You can buy a MDD 1.25 single for 100 EUR.
... so don't loose your time and money with a 9600. IMHO

The 9600 would make an awesome System 7 (MIDI) Monster with superior MIDI advantages over QS or MDD
Read the "Syntho" guide, to understand where the 9600 would shine !

All 9600 when converted to
PowerPC G3/G4 are awesome Protools Mix rigs with 5/6 cards

Ok, I never had a 9600. But I had used for a long time a 8500 and a 8600 that are a very similar machines. Both upgraded to a G3 @ 500 and with a UW SCSI, USB and Firewire cards.
I was between the few people that used USB card on System 8.1 and a SCSI DVD ROM at this time on those machines !
It's just an opinion but I even prefer a modest Sawtooth than a 9600. And about Sintho guide, it's a great work but I'm not agree with him about this topic at all.

A 9600 should be used just about strictly for Pro Tools rigs and hardware midi stuff. Don't bother with softsynths or VST stuff. 9600s are my favorite computer ever -afro-

OK, but ettore is interested in Reason not Pro Tools. And Reason is basically a bunch of virtual instruments that will run better in a 5-7 powerful and faster Mac like the MDD and he don't need the 6 slow PCI 32 bits slots in the 9600. Furthermore he wish to use Mac Os 9.2, and this version isn't native supported by this machine.
