Title: quicktime 6, any known issues?
Post by: supernova777 on October 01, 2014, 08:00:56 AM
does anyone know about any issues with quicktime 6?

i installed this on my 8.6 installation and everything went strange..
now when i boot up, the desktop freezes and i cant click on anything..
so i have to restore again from cd... *sigh*
not sure if it was directly caused by that.. or if its a coincidence and
i did something else wrong.. or maybe it was carbonlib1.6

i know i did see some apple document on "how to uninstall quicktime 6"
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA44662
there must have been problems why else would they have this document!

Quicktime 6 includes a Mp4 and aac support.

Disable the Musical Instruments extension.
Why?

Quicktime comes pre-installed with the OS, at least my install disks do. I need to update Quicktime to a later version to get other software working and when I do that there's a conflict. It gives an error message when booting up, so I disable it since I don't use it anyway.

There's something about the musical instrument profiles not matching or something like that. I didn't really investigate, I just disabled the extension and the error message stopped coming up. I was thinking maybe that was freezing your system or something.
