here i have taken a photo of the difference in size of the serial modem connector on the g3
vs the one on the g4 agp
(http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1841.0;attach=1042;image)
the larger one is a ribbon from the modem connector on my b&W g3 450mhz
the other is the modem from the quicksilver 867mhz , disconnected and overturned to show it next to the actual connector
note the difference in length
are these standards of some sort?
is there a way to bridge one to the other?
i have heard from someone at some point who told me they somehow modified a g4 stealth port to work in a g3.. or the otehr way around
and that it did work

heres another shot of the g3 powermac modem connectors in better res
and the power mac g4s with significantly less 'pins' or perhaps they 'folded it in half' somehow
it appears to be half the size

my thinking was this:
/maybe it would be possible to "harvest" the g4 connector off the g4's modem..
(which is garbage almost anyway)
and some do a modification to connect this to a g3 modem ribbon connector cable (Easily found for 1$)
which can then attach to the g3!!!!!
it would be tedious work tho;(

close up shot of the modem port on the g3 B&W
seems to be 35 pins.. x 2 = 70pins?

the connector on this is the same

You know I could have sworn that I had my Opcode midi boxes talking to the G4, but I guess it must have been on the G3. I'm going to have to let this one percolate in the gray cells for a while. hmm...

yes the modem ports are of different size but i think they have the same number of connections .. its just that in the g4 they changed the connector (literally bending tghe same connection in half-length and doubling it over..
i have spoken tosomeone who said they didd this but it was very painful work and took thenm like 2 days to wire it up by hand!!!! and it workd! but forget doing that...
some people are nuts;)
