lets try to run down the apps which actually do support multi cpu?
off the top of my head im thinking:
YES
Cubase VST 32 5.1 (http://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=214829)
Logic 6?
Logic 5?
Digital Performer 3 (http://mixonline.com/products/review/audio_motu_digital_performer/)
NO
Ableton Live is a no i think?
Pro Tools? another no?

Pro Tools is a big NO. It will crash if the Multi Processor extension is present.
Logic 6 supports it, don't know about 5.
-
digital performer 3 was remarked to have support in the above linked article

Was messing around in Logic 4.8.1 on the PowerBook just now and noticed that it supports multiple processors as well. Which probably means that we surely can add Logic 5 to the list as well ;)

was the first dual processor mac?
Introduction Date: July 19, 2000
so for sure not long after this date it was the newest + biggest deal to add proper cpu support
maybe we can guess.. from august-septermber 2000 going forward this was an aspiration
of any leading programmer to include this...
releases which came after this point:
Logic Audio 4.6
digital performer 2.7.2 (i read dp3 supports for sure..)
nuendo 1.5??
reason 1.0
live 1.0
Cubase VST 32 5.1r1

No. The PowerMac 9500 180MP was the first multi processor Mac. Dual 180mhz 604e's in 1995 :)
