this has been a question i have asked like a bazillion times..
i just installed PT Free 5.01 on my MDD 1.25
i guess if noone else can answer this question partially or completely..
i will have to begin the painful process of checking each one for compatibility
http://archive.digidesign.com/compato/ptfree/digiswfree.html
this looks like relevant info
Note: Most RTAS and/or AudioSuite Plug-Ins from Digidesign's Development Partners are compatible with Pro Tools FREE. (for a list of possible optional plug-ins, use the Digi 001 Plug-In Finder in the Products section of the website) However, some manufacturer's Plug-Ins are not enabled for use with Pro Tools FREE. (Antares and Bomb Factory plug-ins are not compatible with Pro Tools FREE) Before purchasing any RTAS or AudioSuite Plug-In for use with Pro Tools FREE, we recommend checking compatibility with the manufacturer.
so this quote is indicating most 3rd party plugs should be fine.. but the antares + bomb factory plugs are definately not.
sucks about bomb factory.. but what else can i use for my 'go to' plugs for pt free?
the waves shell plugs??
shame "the Digi 001 Plug-In Finder" is kaput!!

Didn't you ask something similliar not long ago?

yes admittedly;)
but.. u answered from the perspective of using normal pt.. not pt free!
im trying to connect with people that have used pt free... and have found which plugs work with it!
-
I have used PT Free as well. I use it on my PowerBook. Some plugins works, and some don't in Free.
The RTAS part of TDM plugins work for instance most of the time. I guess it's something you need to investigate.
I don't think that there is some kind of master list of working RTAS plugins in Free, so get to work! ;)
Pluggo running in Pro Tools Free on my PowerBook G4 (even though it shouldn't):

its not good enough to just leave the topic at "Some work, some dont" :)
we need real hard facts..
which plugins work?!?
this is important info worth discussing in detail;)
-
I accedently edited your post instead of replying. Sorry for that.
We need to test them all then. I can start testing a few tonight and see how it goes :)

Realverb from king of loud works.
McDSP MC2000, compressor banks and filter banks works. MOST McDSP but the synth.
Not sure about Waves.
It would be interesting to add the audiointerfaces compatible with pt free. All PM G4 post Digital Audio only have audio outs.
Anyone having more than 2 inputs using ptfree??
-
Anyone willing to search the numbers 2 and 8 with resedit on pptfree?
Maybe we have the knowledge on forum to unlock free to use the 24 inputs of a motu 2408 or the 12 of a 1204.RME, M-Audio, etc. We should also make a list of interfaces that support more than 8 inputs.

That with the onboard soundcards of a G3 Blue Rev1 @ 450. That blue thing has audio inputs. Poor DA, AS and MDD towers
;D

Have you ever take look on the backside of your MDD?
There is a weird symbol alongside the audio output, I'll let you guess for what this connector is for...
LOL
Back on topic: There is a mysterious file around here that can help...
... if any one wish to test it...

I hope you do not mean the 2.5 milimeter "digital audio" apple proprietary for the transparent harman kardon ones.
Maybe the audio in returned on MDS but DA and QS hasnt

I am willing to test any pt mod for 9!

MDD rear connectors:

The FW800 connector is not present on FW400 models of course.

yep.. mdd+ sawtooth bothhave audio ins..
icant believe they didnt add it on the quicksilver.. like what would make them change that... so strange
especially since the model before was even called "Digital Audio"and the quicksilver is most like that model then any other

The Sawtooth and the Gigabit Ethernet have essentially the same motherboard, just a little change in the ethernet controller... the Audio chip is called "Screamer" and have audio input.
The Digital Audio and the Quick Silver have essentially the same motherboard... and the Audio chip is called "Tumbler" and don't have audio input. I never understand why.
The MDD have a very different motherboard, and the audio chip is called "Snapper" and have audio input.

pro tools free machines: (/w built in "line IN" port)
powermac g3 B&W, powermac g4 yikes, powermac g4 sawtooth, MDD :D
although one thing we didnt mention ---
isnt it possible to run PT FREE with these other machines with no audio input..
and import wave file tracks from another app? using cubase, digital performer, or live to generate the wave tracks...
and then just mixing in pt free?
also even exporting tracks from reason is possible (i think one at a time though?)
or even using ReFuse to port audio into pt free .. pt free has direct connect?
this has gotten way offtopic;) so much for discussing which plugs actually work :D

thanks so much dr bu 8) 8)
your input is much appreciated!
-
one basically has to look for the release date or protools version requirement. if something says "for protools 5.1 or higher" it wont work in PT free.
the list from dr. bu makes sense. and hey, if you have waves and pluggo and DINR, what do one need more. :)
Anyone willing to search the numbers 2 and 8 with resedit on pptfree?
you would probably have to sio that to the driver more than to the app, just like it had been done to PT 8 which now supports 10000 channels instead of 64 or whatever it was before. :)
at this point i would suggest to buy or crack the normal PT 5 instead of trying to hack the PT free until free is like the full version, lol.
-
i installed all of the plugs we have available.. and this is all i get showing up..
the only error message i got was for the focusrite D3 saying it was missing extensions + going to launch a browser window to redownload it
not sure what i can do next..
is it possible i did not extract the plugins correctly? like i said they didnt all have icons for the files.. perhaps they are being totally ignored?
-
If they are being ignored they probably don't work with free. I took the TiBook home from the studio yesterday, so im going to try the plugins tonight.

your screenshot has a massive list of plugs...!

All of them are from Pluggo! Well, except the ones boundled with "Free".

wait - ive forgotten of mactrons secret post..
-
Try it! I havent had time yet :P

bombfactory 1176
bombfactory LA-2A
are both showing up .. so i guess this means the patch works??
because arent these the ones that are supposed to "not work"?
this is a real bitch of a process to debug..
im trying them in groups of 5 or so at a time to make sure that they work
trying to sort them into folders once i see the result..
plugins that work -> "working"
ones that seemed to crash ptfree -> "crash" (as a few are doing)
and which ones simply do not show up -> "no show"
and some are for instruments direct connect that are not installed
so i cant test throwing those into a folder ->"inst not installed"
to look into later
its definately a larger amount of plugs that dont show up..
im not sure if this is due to lack of proper installation or true incompatibility
-
heres the ones that show up frm your "confirmed" folder
and one from the ones i confirmed..
-
hey knez... should i have been checking the "audiosuite" pulldown aswell as the insert button?
would some of the plugs not show up under inserts?
-
All of the plugins should come up in the inserts menu. I don't have any plugins that are AudioSuite-only so to say.
Many of them have a AudioSuite version though, included in the RTAS or TDM plugin. :)
-
well. ionizer and vocalign only show up in the AS menu. maybe a few more, cant remember. also for me, some of the waves-plugs dont show up in the audiotrack inserts, only in the aux inserts.

I have to put the PowerBook and MDD side by side and see what differs in Pro Tools TDM 5.1.3cs11 on the MDD and Pro Tools Free 5.0.1 on the PowerBook.
The easies would be to copy the MDD's plugins folder to the PowerBook and see if everything is where it should be compared to the MDD.
I have Waves plugins on the AUX and ordinary audio tracks. This is in Pro Tools TDM, though.
