I am waiting for my PPC 9600 233 mhz to arrive :) 50 euros ;)
It has a fw pci card installed, but no usb. I plan to install a USB pci card, but I am not sure if Macos 9 supports USB 2.0 cards.
Found this on ebay: http://www.ebay.es/itm/5-PORT-USB-2-0-PCI-CARD-FOR-PC-COMPUTER-MAC-NEW-BOXED-/150420987737?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_InterfaceCards&hash=item2305ca1f59&_uhb=1
It says supports USB 1.1 for 8.6 and above, and usb 2.0 for osx and above.
Any clear info about this? Can I get USB 2.0 in macos 9?
Thanks in advance!

mac os 9 doesnt support usb 2.0 at the operating system level.
the card will function at usb 1.1 spec while booted into mac os 9..
and provide usb 2.0 spec speeds while booted into osx..
they never added usb 2.0 support in mac os 9
because the machines that mac os 9 was powwering did not feature usb 2.0 ports
and development on the os itself ceased...
it would have been an amazing addition to os 9.22 or a great 9.23 update
but it never happened;(
pretty much any usb 2.0 card will work as long as its a nec chipset on the pci card
the pic of the card looks like a VIA chipset.. while it may work (as they are claiming)
an nec chipset is moreso reccommended for compatibility

Thankyou very much; as I spend hours and hours at the studio maybe I can stand usb 1.1 speed; no sense in too much hurry really.

well usb is mostly for serial/midi/peripherals for mac os 9. rather then data thru put
mac os 9 uses firewire instead of usb for that purpose...
and that works excellent!! so nothing we arent missing much ;)

Just for the record:
USB 1.1 can be used from Mac Os 8.1 with a special hack :)

Whats the hack Mactron? ???

probably overwriting of some files..adding extension from later version ?

Not at all. Just adding a resource called usbx, and then create an entry with the ID number 1984 to the file "USB Support" from USB Driver Development Kit v1.2 .
I've attached the drivers already modified .

I've wanted to get USB working in OS7.6.1. Will that work in 7.6.1?

Is that what some people calls "geek"? ;D

LOL os 7.6.1 is from 04/07/97
just think about that ;) almost 2 years prior to usb showing up
id be very surprised + shocked if u could get it to work
just think about the machines that os 7 was designed to run on..
-
I've used this trick long time ago...
I think it only work on Mac Os 8.1, nor 7.6 nor even 8.0...
-
Others have gotten USB working on 7.6.1. There was one guy who got it working, then his HD crashed and he didn't have the files anymore :'(

what works in OS7 or not seems irrelevant for OS9. lets head towards extending our hard- and software, rather than downgrading. :)
