				Hi!

I recently bought this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kingspec-Flash-DOM-Disk-On-Module-16GB-40Pin-Vertical-IDE-PATA-Interface-MLC-/300963681433?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4612d55499

It arrived yesterday, and I just had to try it in the MDD.
It works like a dream and really sped up boot time, application launching etc. I can really recommend this!

16gb is more than enough for boot+apps in OS9. At least for me. My whole OS9 intall with Pro Tools and ALOT of plugins takes up just above 2gb of space.

It connects directly to the motherboard, without any cables. So I put it in the ATA66 slot, so that I have the ATA133 slot free for my audio drives.

-
Can you test the speed instead of the DVD/Cd channel?  I think my ideal setup with SSD would be with DOM on that ata_ bus, libraries on ata 66 and audio on 100 bus.
I wonder myself if the SSD ata solutions from OWC worth more than to use DOM or to use ATA with an adapter....

-
Can you please post some performance data?
 You can use:

-
Can you please post some performance data?

Of course! I will do it this evening.

Can you test the speed instead of the DVD/Cd channel?

Sure! I think I will try all the slots so we know if there is a big speed difference between them.
I can only test on my MDD though, I don't have any more machines to test it in.

BTW, it works just like any other ATA drive. Initialized with drive setup in 9.2.2 :)
-
hm, buying a new SSD and putting it into the ata 66 slots sounds weird. curious for benchmarks. :)

hell, the new apple powerbook come with an SSD which writes with 950 and reads with 980 ... i really want this speed for video work ... but i guess with OS9 we dont have a chance to get anything better than sata-300.

-
hm, buying a new SSD and putting it into the ata 66 slots sounds weird. curious for benchmarks. :)

I want the bandwidth for the audio drives when we for instance record 64 tracks at once in 24bit/48khz. Loosing a tiny bit of speed on the boot drive is not really an issue when the SSD feels a lot faster on the ATA66 bus than the old 7.2k rpm boot drive sitting on the ATA133 bus did :)

-
so i am supposed to connect this to the idling "zip" ata port of my 2001 QS´s? from its size it would perfectly fit right into that silly zip case.

-
You can put it wherever you want, even on the main hard drive connector on in the Quicksilver, along with your file drive (if you have one). The SSD has a master/slave switch. You'll need a female to male 40pin adapter for that though.

I just thought that ATA66 will do just fine for boot+apps. Since the Quicksilvers main hard drive interface is ATA66, and that feels speedy enough even with a hard drive instead of a SSD.
-
hm, the bigger ones are cheaper that yours .. but they are labeled "SATA" ... in opposite to the product description of this seller, where it says "IDE" ... i am confused.
 http://www.ebay.com/itm/PQI-128MB-Turbo-SATA-DOM-Disk-Module-IDE-Flash-Industrial-/301021974534?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46164ed006 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PQI-128MB-Turbo-SATA-DOM-Disk-Module-IDE-Flash-Industrial-/301021974534?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46164ed006)
-
well the other connections are all full, i aready have 4 HDs in each of my towers. so there is not much space left to put a fifth inside. using such a small flash card is a great idea.

-
The link you posted where for a 128MB one. The one I posted was for 16GB. IDE/PATA is what the old Macs have onboard. If you want to use a SATA SSD you'll need to buy a SATA PCI card as well. I just wanted a speedy boot drive, and I got it really cheap with the KingSpec IDE/PATA SSD.

SATA is probably cheaper since it's still used for new computers. IDE/PATA was phased out 10 years ago. Just like old SDRAM modules are more expensive new than new DDR4 modules.
-
oh its mb :) so 16 seems to be the biggest. a bit more would be nice...

-
There are 32GB versions as well :)
 http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-32GB-DOM-Disk-40PIN-IDE-Vertical-MLC-Nand-Flash-/151367456401?pt=UK_Computing_Other_Computing_Networking&hash=item233e341691

I just didn't need any more than 16gb. I have 2x 200gb drives for files. Back in the day I fit all the files I needed plus the OS on 12gb, so 16gb is more than enough for me when it comes to Mac OS 9.2.2 ;)

-

ok great thanks, 32 is what i was thinking about, but i couldnt find it. :)

p.s. i have up to 7 TB in my quicksilvers ... but now i finally should make use of the unused controller.

-
				oh but specs
Fast Sustained Read up to 43MB/S and Sustained Write up to 21MB/S.
 are not too impressive.

otoh, a "regular" SSD would be overkill for this ATA controller. mabye something between these two options?
-
				Benchmark time!

First up is my old boot drive. A Maxtor HD with 8mb cache with the disks spinning at 7200rpm.
Connected alone on the ATA100 connector.

As you can see the SSD is faster on reading, but slower on writing. Hence the speedup in boot time and overall responsivness of the system. Not increadable bemchmarks though.

Next up is connecting the SSD to the ATA100 connector :)

I use one of these with great success in my MDD. I have the 32gb version and it works great with all the apps installed. It allso has a 500gb 7.2k rpm drive for recording. You have to remeber how big the hard drives where around 10-12 years ago, 32gb for system+installed apps is more than enough. I think I use up around 7gb in total with Classilla, Reason 2.5, Pro Tools TDM 5.1.3, Logic 6 and alot of plugins installed.

I have the 16gb 2.5" version in my Atari Falcon, and it works just great there too. Awesome piece of hardware :)

and u just got it now? august 16th 2014? thats some long ass delivery man (joking)
but so u have 2 of these now? (had 32gb previously in dec 2013) and now u have acquired a 16gb version?
i dont understand why u are posting this as something new.. when u posted about this almost 1 year ago..
this has been talked about a few times before, but hey, cool, i would be excited to get something new too;)
its ok glad to see all of you mac os 9 guys are all anxious to post now that i say im not going to post here anymore;)
i look forward to seeing articles by all of you guys... and not "Chrisnova777" a million times on the site
off you go! get to work!

The 8 Mb of caché clearly benefits the Maxtor HDD. While the the write speed in the DOM/SSD is penalized because the erase/relocate/write process on SD technology. This DOM is based on SD chips tecnologie, the "real" SSDs uses a different kind of chips with faster technology...

hm, buying a new SSD and putting it into the ata 66 slots sounds weird.

it is wierd.. but im sure knez is very challenged for the amount of pci slots... being into pro tools pci hardware.. theres not much slots left over..

Yes, In the old MDD. It's running in the server now to boot FreeNAS. Back then I had it on the ATA100 bus, but with a far more unstable machine. The new one is in use with a better machine (without any hardware problems), and I got the time to properly benchmark it at last.

So this is the second one in a Mac, and third one that I bought in total.

I didn't see any dedicated threads, and that's why I started a new one. I know that it has been mentioned before.

I don't think it's weird at all on the other hand. How much bandwidth do you think recording 64 tracks at once takes compared to running Mac OS 9.2.2 + Pro Tools with virtual memory disabled? There, you see. It wasn't a weird decision to make at all :)
-
freenas! i had problems with freenas!
 big problems

the version (nas4free.org) was alot easier...  is your freenas working 100%? then again i think the problem was to do with CIFS/SMB so if you arent using samba at all then you wont seem to have any problems

but i would think this might be important to u seeing as you talked of this on mavericks using samba instead of AFP
i am curious to hear results from freenas.. perhaps for another thread.

wait -- u are running freenas on an mdd? :o i didnt know u could do this;) bsd on ppc.. hmm

 Noooo :)

I took the SSD from the old MDD and put it in a PC server. Booting off IDE/PATA and using the front mounted disks for storage. 14 3.5" SATA drives can be mounted from the front, so the machine is an awesome fileserver.

Running the official FreeNAS with AFP shares enabled. Took some terminal tweeking to get it working, but it works great now :)

Works with the MDD running 9.2.2 and the intel macs running Mavericks.

yes of course this took me like 2-3 weeks to figure out trying other solutions and being very frustrated and pulling my fucking hair out
which is the reason i kept stressing it to you guys over and over and not a single one of u even say thanks for this..
im starting to realize is just how most of you guys operate.. syntho, you, diehard, mactron, none of u ever thank me for anything i  have done
but meanwhile nameless strangers that log in once or twice. i help them and they are very polite + make me feel great for having helped them..
go figure.. is it pride? or is it just pure rudeness.. taking someone for granted is the best way to lose them. instead of being polite u guys want to play some juvenile
contest + competition... rather then being cool.. and saying. hey man this helped me.. thanks for that..  *shrug*
instead i get my posts edited + deleted... really fucking cool.

it is fun to see how it (only) makes a (big) difference for the very small files, because the search time is close to zero.

surely a big benefit for booting OS9, yet more for OSX, unreal engine or maxmsp where the app has to search 5000-10000 files when starting up.

i dont think it will look different when connected to 100x or 133x.

14 slots ... that reminds me ... every once in a while i look at the apple xraid ... to see if one can make use of it today ... like ... put some 10-12 very cheap and slow/older/secondhand SSDs inside, run it as raid 10 or 30 or whatever ... in order to get a 2000 mb/s disk or server ... but neither the xraid nor a g4 could make use of that speed and the second hand prices for the xraid are a joke. :)

uh, now i am totally off topic.

The DOM sequential and random read are better than I'd expected. This make it useful, in tasks where read speeds was more important than write speeds, like system boot or as a rescue drive connected to a free ATA 33 or ATA 66.
I have tested real SSDs in several configurations (ATA 66, ATA 100, SATA 32b and SATA 64b RAID) and while the Max throughput can range from 60 GB/s to 190 GB/s, Always a SSD notably increased the overall system performance because it has a VERY SHORT access time, this is feature is the more important in using Mac Os 9, where a lot of Hard Disk acces to "small" files...
I usually to have some SSD connected to ATA 100 with a PATA/SATA adapter with great results, even the Max throughput being "only" 80 GB/s the short acces time make a huge  benefit to all the system.

Will be interesting to know the acces time of this module.

I did all the research on my own. Plus, I work with enterprise grade servers all day at work, so configuring FreeNAS is not something new to me.

 Great!
It is 4 or 5 times faster than a standard HD!
Now I understand how do you feel this DOM working great even though the low write speed...
-
Yep! I don't even get the splash screen when starting Classilla. Just the browser window like one second after I double click the application icon :)

				Knez...

I really recommend this one (Yes $40 more, but 3 year warranty)
 http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSDMLP120/

Believe me, not all SSD speeds and quality are equal... this baby far exceeds the "KingSpec"

And I have loaded them in G4 TI and they ROCK

These features alone are worth the extra bucks
Mean Time To Failure" - We all know that nothing lasts forever. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't get the most out of your investment. OWC SSD with Durawrite™ Technology optimizes writes to the flash memory over conventional controllers increasing the overall endurance and reliability of the complete SSD. Highly intelligent block management and wear leveling also extends the overall endurance. With this technology, even MLC-based SSDs can operate for years in demanding use applications without daily write restrictions. This adds up to a MTTF that is higher than most enterprise class hard drives and SSDs on the market today.

it would be funny if we found out owcs is a rebranded kingspec lol

-
it would be funny if we found out owcs is a rebranded kingspec lol

 That's what I think.

 Furthermore, those KingSpec/OWC are this:

 (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41GOrYfVBiL._SL160_.jpg)  =  (http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_101150_1_small.jpg)  +  (http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_81615_1_small.jpg)

ie: a SATA SSD with a SATA to PATA adaptor included (usually Jmicron).

So -unless you plan to install it on a Powerbook-  probably are cheaper to buy them as two separate components. And furthermore you have the option to connect the SSD to a real SATA at his full speed in case you need it.
-
personally i wouldnt buy a kingspec ssd for more then 60$
i would want a more reputable + north american brand (or company with swedish presence, if i was knez)
its one thing to go cheap on a little small dinky 32gb ssd, another entirely to go for 120gb
i would want a good warranty + guarantee for a bigger purchase

and yes mactron makes a good point about SATA compatibility..
the ssd drive probably might outlast the power book!!
so why not have it compatible with other systems
and have leave open the option of using it with with either sata or ide
but one other point is remember that there is 40 pin IDE for laptops
vs 44pin for desktop (i think thats the way it is? or is it the other way around)
just to add that information to any other readers of the thread..
of course knez is aware of this

-
but one other point is remember that there is 40 pin IDE for laptops
 vs 44pin for desktop

It's the other way around :). The 4 extra pins are for power.
I just want something cheap, and someone has to be the first one to test, don't you think? ;)

DieHard, I'll look into the OWC SSD's. I just thought it would be fun to test something new, just like the little KingSpec 16gb "DOM" I put in the MDD, which works like a charm.

Can't affort anything right now anyway. The car is in the workshop, and I don't know what the bill will be at the time writing. Don't buy a semi-german-GM car (Opel)  ::)
-
Obviously the SATA idea won't work in a Powerbook TI series (no room for adapter setup), That is why I posted the PATA link

sucks the 40gb is sold out thats like the perfect size for a g4

(from the above pdf) This Addonics 2.5" IDE mSATA Flash drive turns a regular mSATA SSD into a
2,5" IDE SSD. The drive frame and the connector mimic the exact size and
connector location of a 2.5" IDE hard drive. So once the mSATA SSD is
mounted inside this 2.5" IDE mSATA Flash drive, it can be used just like a
standard 7 mm 2.5" IDE hard drive to direct replace the 2.5" hard drive in
Notebook or any computing equipment. With the addition of an optional 2.5" -
3.5" IDE connector converter, the 2.5" IDE mSATA Flash drive can be
connected to standard 40-pin IDE port commonly found on legacy Desktop
system. The 2.5" IDE mSATA Flash drive is a simple economical solution to
replace a mechanical hard drive with a low power shock resistant Solid State
 Drive

Build your own 2.5" IDE SSD with mSATA SSD of your choice
 • Replace 2.5" or 3.5" IDE hard drive with low power and shock resistant mSA
 TA SSD
 • Increase boot time and overall performance of the system
 • Extend battery life by reducing power consumption of the old IDE drive
 • Direct Notebook hard drive replacement
 • Use as a 3.5" IDE hard drive by using optional 2.5" to 3.5" connector adapter
 • mSATA flash Card can be the primary bootable device containing the OS and applications
 • OS independent. No software driver required

its probably whats inside the kingpsec tbh.. except this gives u control to choose which brand of actual high performance flash u want to use
crucial, mushkin, plexor, sandisk, samsung, adata
 take your pick!

heres one for 40pin ide (seems to be more rare)
but it takes up a slot space..
i guess u could take the pci slot bracket off

this one would work better in a pc build i think such as a system in a full atx case using a microatx board where u would have

this one even adds a single sata port

i think u will see that theres lots of deals to be found if buying msata format. the prices are cheaper.
and i think performance is same as the high end drives

here is 32gb . not as good a deal as above but 46 in stock! its a great price

summary: there may be some great versatile solutions to buy microSD + msata
these formats aswell have the possibility for compatibility with portable items in the future
more so aswell! possibly (if they dont create an even smaller format by that time LOL)
-
yeah look at the speed specs of these msata
 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=179_1229_1089&item_id=050651
this one is local to me...
both read + write above 500mb/s
 64gb for 60$

 insane
 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
no wonder its sold out lol

 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=179_1229_1089&item_id=054580
 heres a mushkin.
i think this is a really good way to pick the best brand ! now we just need to find cheapest price for adapters!

u guys heard good things about kingston SSDNOW series?
 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=179_1229_1088&item_id=055639
 60 for 60! thats a buck a gig..

ok this works .. 120gb for 65$ wow cheap!!!
 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=179_1229_1088&item_id=055640
and 10+ in stock at this store 5min from my house ;)

this has to be the best performing drive for  the least amt of money
i have found yet.. which sucks because i was excited about this msata + microSD options
but this value i cant ignore! (as long as these drives dont suck... that is, but 450mb/s write speed is pretty amazing)

if anyone wants one u can paypal me $$ and i can offer to buy one + ship to u:)
its probably only untill the end of the stock runs out (10 available)

or i challenge u to find a better performance/price then this!!!
 this is luck..!

i hope this is not some type of 'typo' on the price !
-
might not be as good of a deal if u add in cost of shipping across the world tho :o
its always best to find the best deal near where u live to save on ship

this can be used to use a laptop IDE ssd with a desktop
looks liek its designed for a pc tho, with floppy disk drive power connector?
i hope it would come with a 4pin molex adapter to change this power connection

-
ok now i see why the intel is so cheap above
Sustained Sequential Read   Up to 200MB/s
Sustained Sequential Write   Up to 70MB/s

its very low speed performance compared to more modern drives
this is why its 80gb for only 30$

here is a 15.99$ adapter to laptop ide interface
the picture even shows a kingspec 8gb chip!!
this is probably wahts inside the plastic case for these ide kingspec drives!

here is the mother load of adapters!
 http://www.pc-adapter.net/categories/0/0/14/1.html
holy shit they have scsi adapters too

 http://www.pc-adapter.net/products/199.html
 use SDcard as ide drive!

this is insane because the price of these are very very low
probably because speed is lower but still:
 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/16GB-Micro-SD-Kingston-SDHC-MicroSD-TF-Class-10-16G-16-GB-Advanced-Memory-Card-/251584520000?pt=Digital_Camera_Memory_Cards&hash=item3a939b1f40

12 dollars for 16gb sd card
lol.. a micro sd inside a sd adapter.. inside a ide adapter = :D
i wonder how much to order this adapter.. i bet its like 10$ or cheap if u order in bulk!
i may order a bunch and place ad to sell some of these on craigslist!

time to check speed spec on microsd's

wow they have a number of different format for these ide sd adapters
including this one that gives u a card slot via pci bracket so u can change the drive
instantly and easily! this is way coool!!!!!!!!!!!!  8) 8) 8) 8)

must find out how fast there sd cards access time.
 http://www.sandisk.com/about-sandisk/press-room/press-releases/2014/sandisk-announces-world%E2%80%99s-fastest-sd-card/
The new SanDisk Extreme PRO SD UHS-II card offers up to 250MB/s1 write speeds for continuous burst mode shooting and transfer speeds of up to 280MB/s1 for maximum workflow efficiency.
i think there is a great deal of range of really slow sd + fast sd up to these specs above (as of february 2014)
but maybe they will keep making same format but with better specs as time goes on!

 LOL http://www.ebay.ca/itm/SanDisk-64GB-SDXC-Extreme-Pro-280MB-s-UHS-II-64G-Class-3-U3-SD-Memory-Card-4K-/331202970715?pt=US_Memory_Card_Readers_USB_Host_Adapters&hash=item4d1d3c445b
this card is almost 300 $
this is specialty stuff for pro photographer i think
most cheap sd cards will be way slower
-
				bada bing bada boom!

 holy shit
 32gb for 9$
 64gb for 12$
 this is insane  :o :o :o !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they must be reallly slow access time
its the only rational explanation for price
but question is.. is it still faster then a IDE hard drive?
it is still 64gb + low power, no moving parts..
 so it must be!

even if they are only as same speed as an ide drive
there seem to be a SHITLOAD of 32gb cheap cheap on ebay for pennies

these things might be really good for backup solution instead of burning dvds
rather then using them as boot drive - for the price this is cost effective..
imagine backing up all your apps on 1 micro sd 32gb
and another for all your projects .. simple. easy
and u can have multiple backups for safety

its only 10.99-12.99 for these sd adapters

i think for best speed its better to go for msata
 combining these adapters:

back to original post by knez
 heres 44pin ide to msata!
this would also work inside powerbook to use a "micro sata"

-
				(http://www.pc-adapter.net/img/pro/de-0304_b.jpg)

Those adapters are what I've tested it in my FW SD card reader, and I also have tested it internally.
-
				mactron!
perhaps u can share speed experience with using SD..
 both internal?
 and firewire?

 benchmarks?  ;D ;D
i dont expect it to be fast as modern ssd
but .. how does it compare to an ide 7200rpm

It is really slow compared to my SSD Raid (190 MB/sec) :)

 Read Speed: around 9 MB/sec.
 Write Speed: around 2.5 MB/sec.

... but faster compared to the same card connected to a USB 1.1 adapter:

 Read Speed: around 0.9 MB/sec.
 Write Speed: around 0.7 MB/sec.

Those speeds are taken from the FW adapter. I'll test it internally when I have time to. I just remember that it was a little faster but it has to be formatted to HFS to avoid some weird problems...

(all speeds are measured in MegaBytes/second)
-
ok but remember that different sd cards perform differently?
it could be a limited performance sd card?

whats the max speed of fw400 again?
 http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=893.0
 FW400      50 MB/s

is that theoretical max or realworld max i wonder
this 9mb/s must be limitation of the specific SD quality?
it would be good to see between 25MB/s-50MB/s + over firewire with SD!!!

-
ok but remember that different sd cards perform differently?

Of course. I've tested Class 4 and Class 10 without great speed difference.
it could be a limited performance sd card?

Of course. SD tecnologie is extremely slow especially on write speed, because any write operation implies a memory cells relocation. New SD technologies are arriving, but may be newer drivers needed too...

Yes, it would be good. May be those "new SD technologies"...

A very good option may be this:

As CompactFlash are in fact PATA drivers. Just a very simple adaptor are needed.

-
yes this compact flash idea is tried + proven already
 but the only problem is
compactflash are not available as cheaply as msata or sd
 check the price on ebay
maybe it has come down since the last time i checked

hmm last i checked 32gb compact flash was 50+$

this is 20$ so alot better

i found this adapter.. SD card to Sata..
like i said before SD is the CHEAPEST storage u can buy big SD cards for cheeeeeeeaap
which would make this great for backup
 not so great for speed/boot

need the converter that also has power connection connected tho because it needs power via 44pin connection i guess?

this is the same as the addonics but without the front bezel i think

did u ever try the Kingspec 16gb on the ATA100 and do the same benchmarks? (http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=1658.msg7436#msg7436)

-
Nope, I didn't. I'll do it the next time im in the studio. Probably tomorrow or tuesday :)

-
im trying to find the fastest small ide drive i can ...
maybe even 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB sizes... rather then 16GB.
-
Didn't get the time to do the banchmarks on the studio MDD. It has been in use all week and I don't feel like disrupting my friend with tests I can run on a later date.

Further more, I bought one of the KingSpec 2.5" PATA SSD's I was talking about some time ago, and Im going to put it in the TiBook tonight.

Quickbench results from the original 60gb 4200rpm drive that was in the TiBook:

where can i get this quickbench app?

 :)
-
i ordered a bunch of adapters the other night.. sata-IDE adapters and compact flash to ide adapters.. i will have to get a couple sd to ide adapters aswell
Anyway i look forward to testing once i get them!
-
I look forward to the benchmarks! I got a PowerMac 9500 with a 400mhz G3 in it, but without a hard drive. Going to buy a PATA PCI card for it, but I don't know what I should use for boot etc.

I will probably go for another DOM drive, but if CF speeds are allright, I might try that instead.
With a PCI bracket for easy access :)
-
yes i quite like this idea.. of being able to coldboot + switch the drive instantly.
 -afro-

i will use this for my windows 3.1 + windows 95 machine aswell to be able to switch between the two os... one 2gb for fat16/win3.1 .. and one 8gb for fat32/win95

i like the idea of doing this in a lowend g3 build tho too..
i would like to find a mac from the early 90s.. but things get wierd there.. with nubus + wierd non standard networking...

it would be cool to have a mac capable of running mac os 7.x but i think i have enuff machines as it is ..
-
The 9500 can use 7.x and that's what I intend to run on it. And BeOS :)

-
i think u have the advantage in your area in that the people who own these older machines keep them altogether with original proper packaging + all related material + peripherals. whereas in usa + canada u find things basically thrown out.. and in the posession of dumpster diver people that are trying to profit from the sale and all the while not having any of the original materials to 'complete the package'

i cant find any pre-1999 macs around here, except for maybe a bondi blue imac
-
New results! This is from the same PowerBook G4 Titanium 1ghz running Mac OS 9.2.2, but this time with a KingSpec 2.5" SSD linked in a post above instead of the original apple branded 60gb Fujitsu drive.

Just to add to it, while I noticed it...

The fans hardly come on. They came on when I restored 10gb of backed up files through FireWire. They hasent come on since. So I have an absolutley silent PowerBook G4 Titanium now that flies. It's insane. Everything in Mac OS 9 is extreamly sped up. I can really recommend the KingSpec SSD's for anyone who wants a cheap speed boost for their old machine.

 Specs of the PowerBook:
 PowerBook G4 Titanium
 1GHZ PowerPC 7455
 1GB RAM PC133 (2x512mb)
 ATi Radeon 9000 64mb
 60gb KingSpec SSD

 Correct!

 EDIT:
To be more specific, this is what I used in the PowerBook:

				Hi Knezzen.
Can you comment on the longtime performance of that DOM Drive now that you have run it during a longer time.
What about the infamous degradation in performance of this technology when you are filling up near the capacity of the drive or are missing support of the trim function as i understand will be the case when using OS9 or anything under 10.6...
Regarding trash data management what would be better technology DOM or CF cards ?

Haven't felt any loss in speed yet with the TiBook, my Atari Falcon 060 or my Dual 1.5ghz G4 in the studio.
I have posted benchmarks from both the systems in April, so I could run them again so we can compare.

The DOM probably has better trash data management than a CF card. I have tried to stay away from CF cards in general after some bad experiences with CF cards and my Falcons (data corruption etc).

Cool.Thank you Knez. So any recommendation where to buy them ?
I looked at eBay but would prefer to buy at the same seller like you as you are also living in Europe like me.
I think these things are difficult to find in consumer shops as a random search on Google didn't show me any manufacturers selling them directly.
As a known brand on eBay I saw only Transcendend I think so I have few reference. Any recommendation is welcome.

New results! This is from the same PowerBook G4 Titanium 1ghz running Mac OS 9.2.2, but this time with a KingSpec 2.5" SSD linked in a post above instead of the original apple branded 60gb Fujitsu drive.

I will benchmark the DOM in the studio MDD later today. Will be interesting to see how it performs since it gets pretty much the same type of use are the SSD in the TiBook.
 More or less anyway.

Philgood:I just bought the cheapest KingSpec 16gb DOM I could find on ebay. Im pretty sure I bought the one in the MDD straight from Hong Kong.

Next up is the current boot drive, a 16gb KingSpec Disk On Module (SSD). Connected alone on the ATA66 connector.

So according to the benchmarks the drive has lost pretty much no performance at all after 16 months installed and many many hours of hard useage.

And this is QuickBench test of the Sandisk Extreme Pro 240GB SSD connected to an ATA 66 port through a SATA to PATA converter:

Are almost the same? DOM was cheaper than SATA SSD and doesn't need the converter.

Degradation could be because the disk is "fuller"

Are almost the same? DOM was cheaper than SATA SSD

...may be. The Sandisk Extreme Pro 240 GB SSD  cost me 104 EUR :

 and doesn't need the converter.

... because the converter is inside the SSD. This have some benefits and some drawbacks ...
