Title: Missing control panel entries !
Post by: Philgood on July 19, 2014, 04:28:30 AM
Hi there.
I used the drag mac os9 install image from here for my single 1.25GHz MDD mac (thanks a lot for it) and now i'm wondering why i don't have the control panels list in the apple menu updating after installing programs. i have to manually copy the installed control panels in the control panel folder to the apple menu folder to appear under the menu. it seems the installers doesn't do this by default. what could be wrong ?

I also have this issue but slightly differently. When I install new software that utilizes a control panel, it doesn't show up even though it's residing in the Control Panel folder.

Actually it's the same issue i'm having.
For the control panel showing up in the apple menu it has to be in the apple menu folder inside the system folder. The installers are only putting it in the control panel folder inside the system folder but that seems not suficient to show up in the apple menu.

Strange.

Oh I thought you meant you had control panels from the drag install not showing up. All of those show up for me (I think), but the installed programs don't. I always just browse th actual Control Panel folder in the System folder and open them that way.

I just re-read it but i'm not using any application.
I mean the "Apple Menu Items" function.

Anyway i think i just resolved it.
I think DieHard just copied HIS Control Panel folder from inside the system folder to the Apple Menu Items folder so any NEW entry in the Control Panel folder from new installed programs doesn't show up in that Apple Menu Items because it just reflect the state from the moment it was copied in the first place.

I just deleted the Control Panel from INSIDE the Apple Menu Items folder and replaced it with an ALIAS from my actual Control Panel folder.
It's now working fine!

Hope that makes sense.

That make perectly sense. It is like at all standard Mac OS now at your machine too. The Control Panel folder inside the Apple Menu always is an ALIAS to the real Control Panels Folder.
