Title: mac os 9 select + drag text to desktop = text clippings
Post by: supernova777 on July 16, 2014, 07:13:12 AM
one cool new feature i re-learned about just recently
is that in mac os 9 you can literally hilight text in any program/file and drag to the desktop and it will create a "text clipping" of that text content! complete with this 'ripped piece of paper' icon..

very usefull for storing small bits of text like web addresses or username/passwords or any codes you need to remember!!!

this is the types of things that made people fall in love with this OS!

i think that was introduced with system 5. :P

but i also needed 3 years to find out that in system 7.6 or later you can use command-arrows and command-alt-arrows to navigate through the finder faster than ever possible with a mouse. strange, because i used that in atari OS before so i should have guessed.

did you know that you can reveal the original by command-R from the "about this mac"´s running application info window? very useful when you need to find out which copy of a program has been started.

apropos dragging, in some cases you can even drag between apps, for example photoshop, after effects, and graphic converter.

fuck me, in windows they dont even have label colors for document icons. :P

in windows this technique  was reffered to as OLE or something like that and yes
many of the things i got paid to do as a designer / programmer were totally dependant upon this unseen ability! back in the day working between adobe + macromedia applications this was CRUCIAL!

here we are

i think this was around the time when i started to have respect for macs;)
in late 1999 having OLE problems on windows..:) hehe

any sentence with "windows" in it should also contain at least one time the word "fuck". :D
